New HK MP5 .22

I ordered a MP5 .22 rifle from HK (employee purchase) in January and finally got it today. First impression is that this is a very nice gun. Weighs in at 7# , has a paddle mag release, diopter rear sight, sling mounts, and an A3 style stock. Only 1 mag is included. The faux suppressor is a bit longer than I would prefer but is still very nice looking. Can't wait to get it to the range. 3D2DFE32-3688-41CF-825C-90ADC14C3606.jpeg tempImage0QaTR7.png
 
Looks like a fun little gun, especially if youre an old school HK fan. :)

The suppressor doesnt look bad. A lot better than the vented shrouds they used on the 94's back in the 80's to deal with the 16" barrels.
 
The faux suppressor is steel. The body mostly polymer. The "A3" stock rails seem to be aluminum as they are not magnetic. These have been out of production for quite some time and have been going for a big premium over MSRP. Hopefully they will be available at MSRP or less with this new release. There is a pistol version that looks like the SP5 but the rifle is only available in the "SD" style.
 
Will they take, or do they even make an A2 stock for them? The A3's are cool, but the fixed stocks are really the way to go for a shooter.
 
There is a review on Youtube and the reviewer said he tried a regular A3 and it did not fit. He seemed to think a A2 stock might fit with some modification but did not try it. I still haven't gotten to the range yet but I did get lucky at a LGS and was able to pick up 2 brand new mags in the clearance box for $25. He said they've been sitting around for over a year. They are out of stock everywhere but HKParts which has them for $59.99 each. Nice score!
 
For mags, keep an eye on Midway USA, they’re out of stock most of the time but back when HKParts.net wanted $50 a mag, Midway was $25. HKParts.net is the only source for a Black Dog 50 round drum though.
I’ve had an HK MP-5 A5 with the collapsible stock for years, looks and feels VERY close to the real thing, very accurate, feeds every kind of junk ammo. You can adjust gas as well, cycles std. velocity ammo.
An HK fixed stock and the airsoft stocks won’t fit, and a few years before the MP-5 22 went out of production Walther/Umarex stopped making the stocks, they’re hard to find and pricey. I tried to grind down an airsoft stock but just wound up ruining the stock.
 
I just saw an ad for one of these with the A2 stock in the past week, I think it was CDNN. I think it was $400, maybe $499. Looked like a 94 without the shroud.
 
I finally got the gun out today for some range time. It was way better than expected. 200 rounds of federal bulk with zero malfunctions. While they were not popular before the "Troubles" they will be now. My only complaint (minor) was the A2 stock which interfere with 'muffs.

I am curious, you were able to order yours through HK employee purchase. I had heard they were discontinued from manufacturing, least that's all the info I have been able to gather.
Are they going to continue making them, or was yours like a limited edition sale?
 
As an employee I am able to order directly from HK. The guns the public buys goes first to distributors and then to dealers. They're being made and sent out now. I think the published release date is 10/1. The older version pictured above is not being produced at this time. I have no data on numbers but I would hazard a guess that if numbers are low there will be a large gray market like with the SP5s. People have been willing to pay $800+ for the older examples after the price of ammo skyrocketed and dealers pay attention to those numbers. MSRP on both the pistol and the rifle is $479 so average street price "should" be just over $400.

Sweet, thank you. The internet is full of rumors, but so rarely the correct info is readily available. Thank you so very much! I look forward to the new ones they put out.
I will still dream of owning a 9mm version, but the .22 Lr is pretty sweet already! :)

These are quality guns, not like the other ones. I bought one several years ago, but could not find an optic mount that would fit it.

I got an MGW claw mount for my SP5 and it fits on the new 22. I rapidly came to the conclusion that the SP5 was plenty accurate enough for me without an optic. I think the .22 will be the same.
