i meant no wrong, i really didn't. i told my wife i just wanted to look at guns, i just wanted to spend some time around some nice firearms for a little while. just wanted to visit a gun store.

and there it was, one of the guns i want but never expected to actually see in the flesh: a SW 617 with a 6" barrel.

so i went home and begged. you know what i mean, probably. i had to promise to buy her a new mattress. ok, sure, honey, no problem!

so we'll take our new family member to the range tomorrow. back when i was obsessed with guitars, i often named my guitars - if they had a "personality" about them. i think this new gun will be "Big Baby".

Like everyone else here I have my fair share of firearms. But handsdown, the one gun that gets more action than any other us that 10 shot, 6 inch k frame. It is great for new shooters, great for crows, great for squirrels. Hell, tell me what it can't do!
The only negative is the weight, but if you see things the right way, the weight is a bonus!

but there's even more:

i haven't been thinking about rifles at all, i've been all about handguns. and - not meaning to insult anyone's guns, but i really don't care much about all the wild-looking black rifles all along the walls of every gun store i go into. they are fine for those who love them and i'm sure they really work like they are supposed to, but they aren't my thing - just as it was with guitars, i like the "classics".

but then i saw a rifle that caught my attention, a brand new mini-14. when i was a correctional officer, we qualified with mini-14's every year, but i didn't like them very much because i didn't like the sights on them (this was in the 80's). but i picked this new one up and took a look and the sights were VERY nice. the rifle had a good feel, good weight, i liked everything about it. it immediately went on The List. so there's a thousand bucks.

it's dangerous to go in a gun store, i tell ya.

I was stalking some varmints in the yard a few years back, the ones that try to move into the walls of my home. I had the the 6" 617. The retired detective neighbor caught a glimpse. He walked over a bit baffled in my choice of dirty harry like 44 Mag firepower. I told him I knew what he was thinking, Punk.

Enjoy, and congrats on Big Baby.

...or a 4 incher. Indeed the weight is a bonus! What a fine, fun firearm. The perfect M610 understudy.

Isn't it odd with the Wife, how she can say that's to much to spend right now.
So you hint & ask & beg some more then all of a sudden, not only do we have enough cash
we have enough to buy something of equal value for her?
I just put this 617 on my have to have list, now that list is longer & longer.
