I just opened the box. It holds the finest hand made present I ever got. The Gunny sent me a beautiful signed 50 BMG cartridge which I will always treasure. It goes right on the mantle piece with pride. Made of wood on the Gunny's lathe, it has a fine smooth finish. Best of all it is SIGNED and DATED by the artist! Thanks Gunny! I was never a successful boy scout so I cannot tell what kind of wood it is made of, but you guys can fill me in.
Now I suppose you all want to see pictures??

I don't want to scratch the neck as I don't have any wooden links. You, however, can see the how well it would look in a wooden M2 heavy barrel. :)

THanks Gunny!

Awesome. I'd like to see a wooden set of bullet (cartridge) chess pieces. Now a set of those would be pretty cool. Different size cartridges for pawns, king, queen, rook, bishop, etc... cherry for one side, maple for the other......

Gunny you're a talented man.
Interesting idea. Because the height of most cartridges would make the wooden pieces unsteady, it would need a weight in the base. Perhaps a 125 gr8. .38 cal. lead bullet?

Very nice work! The chess set idea intrigues me. Just thinking of what cartridges would make the best pieces. Maybe....

Pawn -9mm
Knight - 38 special
Bishop - 500 Magnum
Rook - 45 acp
Queen - 338 Lapua
King - 50 BMG

THanks Gunny!
You have set things to me, and I figured that the first 50cal round that I made should be yours. I knew that you would like it. The wood is Hickory, from a branch I cut off the tree in my back yard.

I have thought about making a chess set, but I’m not sure if wooden cartridges in correct size would work very well. Most are pretty small compared to regular chess pieces.
Maybe one day I’ll figure out something that will work.

It would probably be alot of work, but if you scaled down the chess table (squares) to be closer in scale to the base size of the pieces, possibly a magnet recessed from the underside of the table and on/in the bases of each cartridge piece, that may be an option. Definitely would be alot of work but I imagine based on the quality of your work, a set like that could go for good $$$

I’ve already given that some thought.
