So with all the squirrel threads it reminded me that it is squirrel season.
I took the .22 out to the range and it is grouping nicely but I could not get the Burris 4x scope to focus well. It ghosted the reticle when I got it close to focus.
What would be a good economical scope to put on a 10-22 for squirrel?

Well, the rifles value is about $300 so something like that.
I have always been a firm believer that when possible the optics should cost at least as much as the firearm they’re sitting on.

Do you by any chance where glasses? If so, try taking them off + seein if that fixes the problem. I have a couple optics that I can only use with my glasses + a couple that only work without glasses (still need eye protection). Moral bein, be sure + try what yah buy if you have the same problem.

Anyway, love Vortex but they're not really "economical". For economical I love Simmons from your local Walmart. Or, I just put a CVLife red dot ( Amazon $23 or 24) on my 10/22 + love it. But, don't know about leaving it on while walking thru the woods. Probably drain the battery pretty quick. But, I was absolutely AMAZED at the clarity + how well it holds zero for such a cheap unit.

I’ve purchased a number of Bushnell Prime scopes over the past year, 3 or 4 if memory serves, and all have been solid performers for no-frills scopes.

Leupold is always an option for reasonably clear set and forget and they offer both 2-7x and 3-9x options within your stated price range.

Clearidge Ultra RM 3-9x32 AO. I’ve had one for nine years on a CZ 512. Bought mine based on reviews from RimFire Central. Though I like their Rimfire models better than their Centerfire models, I do not like Vortex Crossfire scopes. I like their Diamondback Rimfires okay.

As so many others do I like Fullfield II scopes.

@cdb1 ’s suggestions trump mine by far! While many may not be aware of Clearidge they are every bit a better scope than Leupold past or present for the money spent. And while my Bushy Primes will work fine, they aren’t the equal of a Fullfield, albeit less expensive.

Changing my vote to Clearidge in solidarity.

Thank you all for your well thought out replies.
I remembered I had a 4-9 Bushnell in a box and put that on. It zeroed about 2 clicks from max vertical and in shooting it would randomly jump the poi about 5-10 moa. The funny part was the gun would shoot cloverleafs at 100 yards then it would jump and shoot cloverleafs again at the new poi.
I retightened everything, even reversed the rings but it acted the same.
Just as I was about to pitch the whole thing in the trash barrel I remembered my LGS was still open.
I scurried over there and the decision came down to what the LGS had on the shelf, which was a Bushnell AR optics 4-9 with side parallax and RTZ turrets. I’ll have to figure out how many clicks per 50 yards with .22 again.
The LGS heard my frustration and gave me a deal on new base and rings cuz I just had no confidence in anything that was on the gun.
When he asked if I wanted the old scope or hardware back I told him to give them to someone he didn’t like.
I scurried back to the range at multiples of the speed limit to get there before it closed.
The end of it is that the rifle once again shoots way better than I do. The squirrel population is in trouble.

I bought this HAWKE for an air rifle. It is a $225 scope iirc. It is extremely clear with adjustable objective. I would gladly put it on my .22lr target rifle.
Air rifle scopes are built rugged.

I also was introduced to Hawke scopes through the air rifle hobby. They quickly became a big favorite of mine. I even tried their high-end binoculars. Impressive.

It’s been a minute or more since I last fiddled with ranging between 25 and 50 yards with my main squirrel rifle but if memory serves, 50/50 shot on that, I think the difference is negligible at the two. In-between may leave you slightly higher but otherwise I recall near same POI.

In any case, glad to see your scope issue resolved with confidence going forward.

If anyone knows the math to convert drop point yardages for different magnifications please feel free to educate me.
