Well, its mostly direct translation and its not much of figure of speech, more like litteral description :D Lucky for me, im anwering only to my bank account, which is sad, little, empty thing anyway

Well, you dont need to buy all extra accesories for vz 58 right now, so you can spread that costs on longer time unit... Maybe plan vacation in Czech Republic for next year and get that accesories cheaper here :D

Another thing to consider is if there will be some vz 58 avalaible in future or how it will grow on price...

Still i think you want vz 58 badly, so mayabe try it somewhere and if you will like it - well, you will be more capable with rifle what you shoot and training a lot...

Thank you my friend you are an enabler! I love Pilsner Urquell from your country, it is a delightful beer. :)

I would buy the Windham AR. I own one of their AR10s and it's been very reliable and accurate. I'm also a fan of the M16A2 rifle clones as that's what I carried overseas. I built one out of PSA parts and it's a joy to shoot. The 20" barrel and rifle length gas system do it for me. Buy the Windham and spend the rest of your budget on ammo and magazines. Good luck on your decision!

I don't know if I'm too late to the party, but the Vz.58 is my favorite gun, period. I own two from CzechPoint bought a few years apart. One is beaver barf au naturel and the second is more tactical black. I just love these things.

JCooperfan1911:

if you are a fan of the “sighting systens” of Both rifles (ARs didnt quite “grab me”),
And you have much more 7.62x39 than .223 Ammo…

VZ-58, by Czechpoint.

An extra thought: on THR, the imported VZ and AKMs never seem to prompt a new topic,
ie “My rifle has a FTF, FT Ignite, FTE (extract or eject) etc malfunction “.

I think the AR is the more boring choice, but is the more versatile, accurate, common, I would say more sensible choice. I have a good number of ARs but the one I set out to get from the beginning is the one I don't have, a 20" Gov't A2 style scoped rifle. Having said that, I would go for the Windham. I wish I could justify the expense right now, but the last thing I "need" is an AR. Maybe I'll trade into one, idk.

The Vz58 is one of the guns I was hot for in the mid-late 2000's. I gravitated away from the x39 altogether but I still think they are cool and are just generally more interesting, but would serve no purpose to me other than collector appeal, jollies, etc... of course it's still a great tool and will do many things well, I just don't think it will do as many things as well as the 20" Gov't Rifle.......from a completely practical, utilitarian standpoint, the AR15 gets my nod....

DustyGMT: Your points were made very clearly, and with a good context for each comment.

A friend has the "green box" Colt AR with the carry handle, bought NIB in 1985. Limited use and the gun looks fairly new.

The main reason I never bought it several years ago (around 2015 or so) was due to the high market retail price for them. He plans to never sell it.
He bought it soon after he moved from Essen Germany to the US.
