I came across a huge stash of once fired Fiocchi hulls… not exactly like finding six winning numbers, but I’ll still take them!

They were made with a six point crimp. My MEC is set up for eight point. Will performance suffer significantly if I run them through the eight point crimper?

I’m not losing any sleep over a reduction in reloads with these… they are like playing with house money anyway.

Thanks!

They’ll make ugly crimps. It’s worth having the 6 pt guide. It doesn’t take long to swap them out in the MEC. It’s a $7 part so not a big investment to double the types of shells you can load.

If you go with ugly crimps, a drop of candle wax on the crimp will help seal the shot in, but make sure to store them in 25 shell boxes. Stored in bulk they will leak shot everywhere. 1/4 oz of shot can make a mess.

Get the 6 point crimp starter and some thin overshot cards to avoid adjusting your 8 point setting used for Win AA HS. That import shell plastic is brittle and can make ugly crimps that leak shot. The cards fixed that for me. It is rare for me to get more than one reload without the plastic breaking around the crimp. Plan to load, shoot, and discard.

I prefer 6 pt crimps for hunting loads. They seem to set up tighter, at the expense of hull life. Seems many manufacturers are going to 6 pt hulls on the value shells one tends to find for free. Get the 6 point starter, and load away. As mentioned above, they won't crimp well with an 8 pt starter.

I love the Fiocchi hulls. Just be aware they have significantly more volume than say a AA or Rem STS. Use the right wad. I shoot a lot of 12sO equivalent for 1 1/8 and a lot of WT12 for 1 oz loads in them.

For Fiocchi Training, the pretty blue ones, I use the BP Lightning wad with 7/8 oz CAS/target load. Am happy using Alliant Extralite. I can also use Clays without adjusting anything.
