I am looking at the H&K 45. I saw some reviews and some came with o-rings for the barrel and key's for a key lock. Do all these come with these safety key-locks ? And also are the o-rings something that are necessary for function ? I have never seen any pistol with o-rings needed to be used . Thanks for any help.

The O-ring is not necessary for function. It helps provide a more consistent barrel to slide lockup for increased accuracy.

As far as I know, HK45s have the key-operated lockout in the grip. It is unobtrusive (unlike the ugly S&W “Hillary holes”) and impossible to inadvertently lock without the key. If you leave it unlocked, it will stay unlocked.

I had the hk45 briefly. Yup, the o rings, think its just one, at the end of the barrel really does need to be there, but they last a very long time, and are cheap to replace if you need to. You could shoot it without it, but accuracy will suffer. Pros for the HK45...well, they're built like a tank. Decent capacity for a 45, full featured, full size duty handgun. I found the paddle mag release took some getting used to, but not altogether disagreeable. What I personally was not a fan of was the relatively high bore axis, makes recoil a bit more noticeable than most 1911's I've shot, more than the Ruger SR45. Other than that, a very good 45.
As far as the lock, I bought mine used, never knew it was there, and I sold it within a year, so it never knew anything about it

Always funny how we all perceive recoil, my HK is the HK45c but I find mine feels like both less noticeable and more comfortable to shoot (also a little faster on the clock) compared to my 1911s

Do all H&K's come with those internal locks ?

I’m not sure if they all come that way from the factory or not. My USP45 (manufactured in 2002) has it. I have never used it, as my example was a police trade-in that came with a number of 12-round magazines (LEO-only marked magazines from the AWB era) but no “key” tool for the lock. As mentioned, it’s impossible for this lock to be accidentally actuated without the key .

That’s the opposite of my experience with my USP45 versus typical Government-sized 1911s. Neither have beastly recoil, but the large grip and funky dual-recoil spring of the USP clearly work to mitigate felt recoil. The 1911 has a sharper, flatter, recoil straight back into my hand, while the USP45 is definitely softer.

It’s been a while since I shot an HK45 but wouldn’t expect it to be much different. Maybe it’s a factor of the USP45’s bigger grip with 2 more rounds.

From what I've seen the default configuration is the pistols ship with internal locks. If you don't want that feature, swap them out with the factory lockless part.

Since HK is a commercial concern, I'm sure that if you were supplying a police department and wanted 200 pistols configured w/o locks HK could make it happen.

I have a USP 45 elite and like all my HKs, very reliable shooter. The only nit is minor but the trigger reset seems kind of long.
