I was asked what holster I would make for my USFA Henry Nettleton, this was my first thought. I started to do a plain black military pattern but just couldn't do it. I've wanted to try this pattern for a long time but always dreaded the trial and error involved in designing the flap. I took design queues from both military and civilian versions. Sam Browne button instead of the usual keeper. The stamping pattern from page 74 of Packing Iron. I didn't really like the way the pattern on the original turned the corner at the top of the throat, so I used a rosette to facilitate the turn in the pattern. I had to wait until the holster was assembled and wet formed before I could finalize the design of the flap and stamp it out. Now that I have a completed pattern, the next one will have a more natural flow from the flap to the pouch. Chestnut brown with some aging effects. Decided to do a sewn toe plug as well. It turned out pretty good.

Very nice holster. I am not real keen on the…I have no idea what to call the arches with the little circle at the end, but I don’t really care for that. It’s too busy. No offense meant, I just think it detracts from a really nice design. I do like the clamshell like design around the edge near the stitching and the rosette.
You do very nice work.

Craig,

First class work and design.

But with that rig you've
earned the title "Dude."

A brocaded vest and bowler
hat are musts.

But again, what I said in
another thread, a most
outstanding pistol!

I have no idea. I thought it was weird at first but the more I look through Packing Iron, the more weird stuff starts to appeal to me. Been wanting to try something different, so I've been experimenting with veiners this year.

Nice work!! I've started making holsters for myself as a hobby and love to see others original unique designs. Love the aging effect too.

I'm gonna have to check out Packing Iron.

A+ on the workmanship. I can't make up my mind if I like the half flap or not but it might grow on me. I find the stamping too busy.

If you keep posting these pictures I am going to have to dig out my leather working stuff and make another holster. I will need something to do inside during January and early February. Can't take the cold days anymore.

Another beauty!

I saw the California holster influence right away, it gives your holster a real personality. Nicely done!

Keep up the great work.

Stay safe.

Gorgeous holster, I love the unique pattern and I have liked half flap holsters for 40+ years since I first tried them for pig hunting in California . Here is a picture of a George Lawrence #100 "Quick Flap" type I used to carry a Ruger 6 1/2" three screw flat top .44 Mag in . Mine is in a bottom holster drawer aster many hard, wet trips in my younger days .

If you think about it, full and half flap holsters should really be a lot more popular. Not sure why they aren't.
