New Ithaca 37 or Browning BPS.......Used Winchester mdl 12 or Remington Wingmaster......You couldn't run fast enough to give me a butt ugly plastic benelli nova.
I’m not even sure who still makes pump shotguns anymore. I have been looking for a cheap dependable (not sure if those two words even belong in same sentence) self defense shotgun lately, but can’t seem settle on one.
A few in my past include Win 12, Rem 870, Marlin 19S, Noble 66J, etc.
That said, I’m really SB and SxS man.
BUT I do use a pump when duck and goose hunting.
My BPS is a bottom eject and tang safety. Love the configuration. I realize there are lots of shotgun on the used market but I was wondering who was still making NEW pump shotguns? The Ithaca 37 is a good choice, bottom eject good for L/R handers. There was about 50-60 on an auction site a few months ago, most with bids under $300.00

If I was going to go old school Winchester it would be a model 97. I have one setup as a trap gun, it's a beautiful gun but needs a little internal work.Howdy
Winchester Model 12.
I have four of them, just picked up a beauty a couple of weeks ago.
Of course they have not been mass produced since 1964.
Howdy

Ya mean like this? 12 gauge, full choke, 30" barrel. Made in 1909. It makes a pretty good trap gun, I have won a couple of Cowboy Trap matches with it.

Yes exactly that except a take-down version, 12 gauge, 30-inch full choke barrel. It was my grandfather's 97, bought in 1932. My father had a Herders Broadway wide rib and fancy wood put on it and re-finished in the 1960's when he was shooting a lot of trap. I will try to remember to take a picture of it tonight.
To the Taurus or the Mossberg? To call them the Taurus of shotguns seems a bit harsh.
LOL, that would depend on which you liked better. To the Taurus or the Mossberg?
I tried hard to like a Model 12 but the rib pitch defeated me.
I tried out the Model 870 Trap single shot. The magazine tube was occupied by a spring and weighted gas piston to moderate recoil. Softer than a regular pump but I thought it kicked more than my 1100 and I did not like the wiggle of its or any pump foreend.
My neighbor the gunsmith was partial to the Remington Model 31 "the ball bearing corn shucker."
The vent rib was integral with the barrel, all one piece of steel! The past is a different country, they do things differently there.

That's a nice '97. Mine is field grade. As promised my only other pump shotgun other than the Browning BPS pictured in my original post a well loved and modified Winchester Model 1897.
