ok, bear (bare?) with me as I hope I am asking the right questions and not sure of all abbreviations people use for AR parts.
I would like a complete upper including bolt 16" 1:7 to 8 twist, gas. Just want to slide the pins in and have a working AR. Mostly for plinking at my friends farm
Price range $700 to $1,000, maybe more if it's really nice. No optics needed at this point.
Thanks!

For plinking around the farm, and the big ol’ red easy button, hit up Palmetto State Armory.com and check out their wares.

They will have something like what you envision, it will be of good quality, and under you budget. Plenty left for said plinking ammunition.

I have been getting my parts from RighttoBear.com lately. They also have complete uppers from Aero precision, my preferred manufacturer. Great quality, great vendor.

From there the sky is the limit. White Oak has a competition pedigree, and trophy’s to prove it.
Midway has a house brand that is pretty good. I like their handguards anyway.

Uppers are almost falling from the trees. There are some great deals recently.

Is that $700-$1000 for JUST the Upper, or the entire rifle? Because with $1000, I can BUILD an upper better than ANYTHING sold from a manufacturer. Hell, I don’t spend that on my own Uppers & they are STILL better than anything from any manufacturer!

The AR15 is still the one rifle that building is better than buying. You get much more for less. Case in point: No one manufacturer has all the best parts. They can’t! But as a builder, you can choose the best barrel, the best BCG, the best buffer, etc, etc., etc.

Don't need sights.
Unless I’m missing something, You’ll need a way to aim it…
This one has flip-up, back-up iron sights.

A flat-top, railed, or optics-ready AR would have no sighting system. But these are meant for scopes or red dots. Also back-up iron sights can be mounted to the picatinny rail in lieu of an optic, as well as in addition to the optic.

There are uppers with front sight bases and no rear sight.

There are the classic carry handle and front sight base uppers as well.

There is certainly something you are looking for.

I absolutely agree. But with not knowing the terminology, or which questions to ask about them, it’s probably best to point him straight to what he’s inquiring about.

The OP is a little vague, I hope he knows that a lower receiver will need to be the other thing the upper is pinned to. :)

Just do a search for "complete AR15 uppers" there are so many that no one could list them all.
Are you sure you want the .223? If you get the 5.56 upper you could shoot both the 5.56 & the .223 but then there is the .223 WYLDE that can shoot both .223 & 5.56.

AK Hunter

The OP never stated he was going with a 223 specific chamber. Someone else mentioned it. Although, even there I believe they were simply speaking of 223 as the cartridge, not the chamber. That’s just how I’m reading it anyway.

I do the same thing. When someone asks what cartridge my AR is, I say “223”. Even though it uses a BA barrel with Wylde chamber. 223/5.56 are dimensionally the same. And there is no such thing as a “Wylde” cartridge, LOL!

I never said the .223 Wylde was a cartridge. I was referring to the type of chamber to let the OP know there was a difference.

Oh yeah, I didn’t mean you did say anything. I wasn’t accusing you of anything. I was expounding on how I understood it; that the context was not on the chamber, but rather the cartridge.

In other words, even when someone says “I’m getting a 223 barrel for my AR, they likely mean a 5.56 or Wylde chamber. Unless it’s for competition, then they might do a 223 chamber.

That’s all I was saying. Was being accusatory ;)

It depends on what type of “plinker” you want. Iron sights? Sounds like you might have an optic to put on it. You can build one hell of an upper for $1K.

Here’s what I would consider your super premium option.

JP Enterprises or Geiselle are top of the heap for me. You budget really includes SO much. Look around and find something you like.

Look into Bear Creek Arsenal. I have 5 of their complete uppers and each and every one has been 100% reliable and accurate.
I have many BCA products, but I would not recommend them for anyone's first AR purchase (maybe I missed that part, not sure if its the OP's first AR purchase), especially on the fairly hefty budget of $700-1000. Better options in that price range. I would recommend a complete Aero upper, a Rock River upper, a Bravo Company upper, to name a few. Your mileage may vary.

Why do you need to spend that much money. Is the OP going to get into precision long range shooting? The Bear Creek complete uppers go for $250-$336 with BCG and charger. I have a 16" 5.56 flat top and a 16" flat top in 300 AAC and they both shoot 1.5" @ 100 yards with the right ammo (my handloads). The 300 AAC BO bolt carrier has a side charging handle which is convenient when developing subsonic loads that sometimes don't fully cycle the action. The 5.56 works flawlessly with normal power 2800-3000 fps loads and 55g bullets.

For plinking, this is a perfect option. Midway used to run specials on complete uppers by AR Stoner. I got a 16" complete upper a few years back with the round handguards for $200 but that was a couple of panics ago.
