I have a stock factory Ruger Mk II 512. The trigger is... stock Mk II crunchy. :)

I'm looking at the Volquartsen parts, specifically the Accurizing Kit and the Pistol Competition Kit (Accurizing kit + disconnector + firing pin).

I don't mind the extra cost (and work) of the Pistol Competition Kit. Does anyone have first-hand experience that would talk me out of the Pistol Competition Kit? If it's even marginally better, I'll go for it. If it's a wash, then talk me out of it.

Does anyone change recoil springs too?

I might try to get into some base level competitive target shooting, but if nothing else, it will smooth it out.

Might look at some different grips, too.

I highly recommend the Volquartsen sear (which is available separately). The VQ hammer is skeletonized, which is supposed to reduce lock time, but also reduces the force of the blow on the firing pin. Some people like the VQ trigger profile, but I find it strange. Get a Clark trigger if you can find one (Clark has discontinued the product).

Thank you everyone. I looks like the sear is the way to go for now, so I'll try to give that a shot (heh) before the end of Summer. I appreciate your wisdom! Now I'll need to cross my fingers that I can put it back together correctly.

:what:I almost dropped my tea! After reading post after post after post, I thought the Mk II trigger was handed down to Moses on the Mount while the Mk IV crawled past Charon to sneak back across the River Styx. I am refreshed to read someone has a Mk II that isn’t Heavenly right out of the box.

All kidding aside, I put a VQ kit and their extractor into my Mk IV with very little effort. VQ has great tutorials for their kits and You Tube has been my friend when reassembling my Mk II and Standard models. If you can change the spark plug, air filter and oil in your lawnmower, you can break down, insert the parts and reassemble your Mk II.

Let us know how it goes :).

Stay safe.

Those are nice looking grips!

That trigger pull is crazy light, I won’t go quite that far. It’s also the gun I hand to people first when taking them out shooting for the first time. One round in the magazine. Too light in this case could be counter productive. ;)

This is the best resource I’ve found. This is for the mkiii but the only real practical difference is mag disconnector guts which your MKII won’t have.

It looks light at 1 3/4 lb, but once you fire a shot or three you really can focus on the sight picture and you don’t even notice the trigger.

When I start newbies with this, or my 2.5 lb Mk II, I always start them with a single shot pistol loading one in the mag until they’re ready for 2, 3, etc.

Since coins are not an issue, all changes are fine, but with new sear you will be ready to brag about it at work, house and friends. Put a pedal for your thumb and ready compete in the category you like the most.
