I can find plenty of most other handgun calibers on the shelves. I can find plenty of 38spl. FMJ and 38spl +P JHP but no 38spl jhp. Am I the only one left that doesn't care for +p??
I passed on 44 sock today at LGS, LRN at $45I can't gind 44 Special and when I see it online it is around $1.50 a round. I have an order with Cavalryammunition.com but they have to make up some more as they ran out. Cavalry is under a buck a round though.
tws3b2, I seem to be misunderstanding. In my case, any .38spl high performance is hard to find at any "decent" price. I guess my question(s) is/are:
1. Why the aversion to .38 jhp +P, unless your gun is not +P rated, and/or
2. Why the aversion to .38 jhp +P, unless it's a price issue?
If 1. I'd call it a moot point, and go with any 158 LSWC if available; if 2. I get it, I hate paying the tariff. If it's outrageous, I'm satisfied, if not ecstatic, about the same 158 LSWC.
Either way, I'm right there with you

Thanks for posting that. I have been to that site a lot but missed this article, which is a key article since the J-frame will be my primary carry.Selective ammo choice to get a load (+P or not) that penetrates at least 12'' and consistently expands:

I had trouble locating any non +p 125 jhp but did find most of the 158gr jhp were mostly standard pressure. I have an older Colt .38spl that I didn't want to shoot +P out of although I'm told that today's +P is more like standard pressure of 40+ years ago but I still don't shoot +P in that revolver because I could never get a straight verdict on whether it was ok or not so I went with Buffalo Bore standard pressure 150gr hard cast WC's for my .38splI can find plenty of most other handgun calibers on the shelves. My S&W 642-1 is not stamped +P. S&W says it's not stamped +P because it was not tested with +P. Even though most were tested with it some were not. I've shot +P in my gun and it does fine. But, I just don't like shooting +P. Just don't.tws3b2, I seem to be misunderstanding. In my case, any .38spl high performance is hard to find at any "decent" price. I guess my question(s) is/are:

That is odd, but maybe the +p stamp came in at a later iteration. Mine is marked +p and is a 642-2.My S&W 642-1 is not stamped +P. S&W says it's not stamped +P because it was not tested with +P. Two months ago @ my LGS the 38spl 110 JHPs were $75 for 50 tax inlcuded. I wanted some factory loads for my ccw backup so I bit the bullet (pun intended) and bought a box.I can find plenty of most other handgun calibers on the shelves. I can find plenty of 38spl.
