How snug or loose?

Never really figured out what was acceptable.

AICS magazines (MDT) in an Atlasworxs setup for the Tikka T3/T3x rifles - they're snug, require proper alignment while loading into the magwell, and a firm slap to get the catch to "click."

Similar magazines in an Accuracy International Rifle - they're practically drop - free.

Does it vary so much between different rifles?

Ive used Boyds, Bergaras, Rugers, and Magpuls "AICS" bottom metal and a Trybe chassis, and all are tight with pretty much all the mags ive had (magpul, bergara, savage, ruger)
Ive also found retrofitted guns will sometimes have issues with the magazines being wider than the feed rails or mag box inletting, causing the mag to just barely not seat and requiring a smack.....or going way to deep and having the bolt hit the feed lips of the mag.

I have both an AICS chassis and an MDT HSS-XL and the mags definitely are a tighter fit in the MDT.
