New Remarms 700 production?

I've owned and shot several Rem 700s and all have shot and performed well and still do. I've changed out the triggers in two of them due to one AD, which happened when my buddy was using it. Fortunately no one was hurt and it never happened to me. The friend says he did nothing to cause it. I won't let him shoot my guns any more. Just saying. But, both of my Rem 700 .243s now have Timney triggers. I'll not buy another Rem 700 because there are so many better options out there. Have bought two Bergara rifles and 3 Anschutz; all are outstanding. And I've ordered a Tikka. You'll see a pattern here. All European manufacturers.

An insightful March 2022 update from Randy Wakeman at Chuckhawks.com on Remarms…

https://www.chuckhawks.com/Column141RemingtonNoOneWantstoBuy.html

now compare that to this hagiography marketing hype from the NRA

https://www.americanrifleman.org/content/remarms-america-s-oldest-gunmaker/

and I better understand what Mr. Hawks said back in the day about the importance of truly independent journalism

I would suggest that if one wishes objective appraisals of Remarms that one explore other reviews in addition to Mr. Wakeman`s. Those with a familiarity of Shotgun World web site are well aware of his long standing negativity towards anything related to Remarms. Just sayin`.

The first 870 were built from left over parts, quality wasn't up there with the NEW production models, that they are turning out now.

I can't say that I agree a whole lot with chuck hawks on several things I've read there.

Sounds like nobody here has any actual experience with the new production 700.
I do. Buddy bought one. 300 win mag. Barrel looks like they made it from a piece of used black iron gas pipe. Rifling gone in 200 rounds.(Edit: I talked to him today: actually 150 rounds) It would shoot 1/2 or better moa new(not bad I’ll admit) but it jumped to 4 moa. I told him he ought to rebarrel it. He said phooey on it and bought a Bergara….

This is very sad that they may have sunk this low. I have some excellent Rem 700s bought some years ago, but truth be told, the last 2 rifles I bought are Bergara and I've ordered a Tikka. Quality always rises to the top. Scopes and ammo I shoot are also mostly European

I wasn’t aware of Wakeman’s reputation vis-a-vis Remarms but I have a feeling his portrayal of them is closer to the truth than the NRA marketing / hype piece.

Something about owner Richmond Italia and CEO Ken D’Arcy - I smell a rat but to be honest don’t know enough - yet.

I’m going to dig around more and perhaps buy one of these new Remarms curiosities. More to come.

I "grew up" with the Remington 700. I used and still use versions of it for all types of applications requiring a centerfire rifle- and I have 3: 1- one of the cheaper ones bought at wally world over 20 years ago in 243, which has put more deer in my freezer than I can remember (and still does sometimes) 2- a custom built 308 that started life as a PSS, shortened, suppressed, and so on, and 3- a former US property M24 SWS, bought out of nostalgia by an offer through Remington, fully refurbished by their military contract shop for people with US mil sniper credentials when the M24 was being phased out of the inventory. I love all of these rifles and will never part with them. But if I was going to buy a new rifle today, it would be another butt-ugly Ruger American. I have 2 of them (6.5 CM and 300 BLK), and those 2 $400 rifles shoot every bit as good as sniper rifles I was issued back in the day, backed up by Ruger's excellent customer service.

I like the Rem 700, but prefer the Win 70 safety. There is a conversion kit for the 700 that replaces the bolt shroud with a bolt shroud type safety that intercepts the firing pin. Rem should reengineer the 700 to incorporate this feature and call it a new model. Heck, add a detachable box magazine so they can really claim it's a newer design.
It could not have been too hard to improve on.

My 300 PRC Mauser project

Ooo… I think I currently have a look on my face similar to the one my Yellow Lab used to get when I’d ask if she wanted to go on a walk… that sounds like an excellent and very interesting project!!!
I’m thinking I’ll put a model 70 style on my Mauser project, but mostly because my kiddo will likely hunt with it, so safety must encouraged on all fronts…

I bought a Howa last. I’ve been pleased so far. Next is probably a Bergara. Unless I buy a bighorn action and build what I really want… but $$$$

The new company refuses to honor the previous company's warranty repairs, despite trying to claim the good will of the Remington name.
This is what pisses me off the most about new Remington. They want to have their cake and eat it, too. They want to say that they're the same company when it benefits them, and don't when it doesn't.

Remington also told everyone who called, that "they were the only one who ever had this problem". Remington lied, lied, lied.
Do you have a source for this that I can read up on. It's absolutely disgusting to gaslight people like that for something so serious. If it's true I can't believe that customer service employees kept up the ruse. Utterly despicable.

I got a video yesterday from a guy who spins barrels for my PRS rifles of a bolt from a new production R700, and a gauge in the bolt head clicks back and forth like it had a detent - thing looked like a 3 on the tree shifter! These screen shots show the “click” positions… not exactly inspiring, not much reason to think a case would be held true to the bore.

The NRA article in particular smacks of pure propaganda because it makes absolutely no mention of the new incarnation of Remington refusing to honor warranty repairs of firearms produced by the pre-bankruptcy company. Remington can't have it both ways -- trying to exploit and trade on the Good Will of the old Remington -- but simultaneously refusing to stand behind Remington firearms manufactured just a few years ago. Shame on the NRA for failing to call them out on their egregious and dishonest business practice. Makes you wonder what other lies the NRA is propagating....

This is pretty standard business practice. Ruger isn’t honoring any warranty work on pre-Ruger Marlins either, are you so incredulous about that? New Winchester brand owners aren’t warranting old Winchester models - is that as equally egregious?

Companies don’t buy that kind of liability - there’s no business sense in buying the mistakes someone else made. There’s nothing dishonest about that.
