I am looking for a no frills hunting rifle and was going back and forth between the ruger american, savage axis, and a new 700. And right now I have found prices that are right at the same for all three. I just needed to know how is the quality on the new production 700 adl? In a search I have found that back in 2012 the quality had gone down, but couldn't find anything about new production stuff.

I saw one at the gun range today. I wasn't impressed and I've owned two 700s. I recommend looking t the T/C Venture. Less expensive and has features that the 700s don't have. 0- and T/C has great customer service.

I'm a big fan of the Ruger Americans as a cheap gun that shoots great. But I also have other "nicer" guns for serious hunting. The American is something I can throw on the ATV and not worry if it gets dropped or broken. They shoot just as well as anything else. Long term durability is an unknown and I think the magazines are the weak link. For meat hunting around home I think they are the best deal going in budget rifles. I wouldn't trust one if going on an expensive once in a lifetime out of state hunt.

The ADL is basically the same rifle as the CDL costing 3X as much. In it's current form it is a budget gun, but with the guts of a much more expensive rifle that could be modified with a better stock or other aftermarket parts over time. It could turn into something really nice. The other 2 wouldn't be worth the expense of modifying. While they typically shoot just fine I consider them disposable rifles. When something breaks or if the barrel wears out it is cheaper to just buy another than repair it.

Id probably take an adl over the other two myself. Ive got a couple sps guns that are basically the same thing with a bit better stock and a floor plate and they both shoot great. As a matter of fact one, an 06 is probably the best shooting sporter weight gun ive even owned. that said id take one of the old wood stocked adls hands down over any new adl or sps.

Another Vote for a T/C Venture they are very underrated IMO. I've owned a few and my friends wanted them worse than I did. That should tell you something...

Also look at the Mossberg Patriot they are nice looking and have good reviews plus the Mossberg 30-06 I own and a few others that friends have out shoot any 700 ADL I've ever seen.

I know some people really like their Axis rifles but I am not a fan. For the same price as an ADL you could get into a Savage 11 or 110 which are far and above the Axis in quality and durability. I saw a used Savage 110D (deluxe) in 7MM Rem go for $300 on gunbroker!! I would have scooped it but I am saving up for a decent piece of glass for 1000 yard shooting. Figure after shipping and transfer fee that would still be well under $400 for a decent rifle.

I really hope Remington has figured things out because I've had an itch for one for a while. I can even put up with the bad metal finish if they turn out an itherwise consistent product.

A buddy of mine recently got a 700 adl. It's a basic rifle, but serves its purpose and is sufficiently accurate. Another friend has a TC Venture and it's an absolute tack driver. I picked it up, having never shot it before, and shot a 3 shot group at 100 yards with cheap corelokt ammo that measured less than half an inch. Between the two I'd go with the Thompson.
