What's your preference pistols or long guns?

I started out shooting a rifle, and will always enjoy them when I can. If I am wingshooting, I will use an appropriate shotgun, and if portability or concealability is important, handgun is most appropriate. It's great to have choices. but rifles will always be my favorites.

I take the OP as; what is the most fun for you to shoot? For me that would be pistols.
I guess my train of thought was about is collecting, but to me shooting and collecting are the same thing as I wouldn't buy a rifle or pistol If I didn't enjoy shooting it.

I have always had some of the coureur des bois in my blood in that I enjoy wandering the forest (and hills & fields ...).

While I can imagine myself traipsing about the woods without a handgun, I cannot imagine doing so without a rifle.

So ... I suppose that I have a natural preference for the longguns. ;)

My shooting started as a hunter with a long gun. Even though handgun hunting is a thing many enjoy and I have a great appreciation for it, for me, the long gun is the most appropriate firearm for the hunter.

I have about equal number of both. But I lean more towards handguns. I can recall the exact dates I last shot all my handguns, not the same for my rifles. They have their different purposes. All my handguns are carried and setup as self defense tools. But most of my rifles are setup with hunting in mind.

I love both but lean towards pistols more. It may be because they take less room in the safe so I can hoard more, lol.
I like long guns too, and appreciate the different types and models. I also am well aware they are superior for most serious application except concealed carry.

However, I generally am more interested in handguns, from collecting to studying about them. Hence, I know a heck of a lot more (than long guns) about various handgun calibers, makes, and models.

I suppose my "biggest love" is British style bolt rifles. All that perfectly fitted walnut and blued steel makes me swoon. The issue, though, is that I'm a mediocre rifleman. Handguns always came much easier to me, and so I've just naturally gravitated to them.

I shoot the pistol the most because I'm not too good with it and it is a real challenge. That said, the most fun I've had was always with a shotgun in my hands. I suppose because I grew up on a farm in western Kansas and many a great friends made their way out to pheasant hunt with me.

I believe that would be Clint Smith, of Thunder Ranch fame. He was once asked what he thought of the 9mm vs. the .45ACP for self defense. his response was: "Why slap somebody when you can punch em' in the face!"

To answer the OPs question, I prefer rifles, but I have some nice pistols. Not much of a shotgun guy. Only have two.

I have plenty of rifles, shotguns and handguns. I don't have a favorite and shoot them all. Different tools for different jobs. I also try to have exact 22lr copies or close replicas of my centerfire rifles and handguns too.

With shotguns, I mostly stick with my 410's. I'm only missing a semi-auto and lever action in 410.

Pistols.
Pistols are concealable; I have one on me whenever I'm wearing shorts.
"Fight your way back to a rifle" :barf: No, the threat that merits lethal force will be stopped, or not, by the handgun you are carrying. (If you are carrying)

I collect historic firearms, military and civilian, long and short.
I only hunt when in need.
I only need one CC pistol or revolver at a time.
Overall, I like firearms in general with no particular preference in length.

Well I like all 3, but I've never really collected pistols.
I had a good sized milsurp collection that ended up paying for a vehicle when we needed one. I still have a few.
I collect shotguns, mostly for Trap, but I have some field guns too.
As far as shooting them, they're all fun!

Rifles. Much more fun to shoot, and have lots of character.
All of my many guns - with no exception - have had only iron sights ( for a better context).

They are for the private gun club, and won't be used in an imaginary movie Road Warrior scenario or street battles similar to southern/ eastern Ukraine.

It has nothing to do with my health, which is good.
Just being rational. -----But if we had a 'ranch' in far southern AZ or TX. :scrutiny: ......the AKM would be on a 4-wheeler etc.
