I have a quick access safe for my handguns (gunvault), and was thinking that it might be prudent to have some in different areas of my home, because I might not be in the same room as the *one* safe when someone breaks in.

But then I was thinking about it - I'd prefer a long gun over a handgun. So instead of getting handguns to scatter about, why not long guns? Of course, this would only be part of my security system (for those who say "get a dog", this isn't the thread) and it would take some time saving up to get those long guns, but is there a quick-access option for rifles on the market?

Preferably something that uses a push-button combo (i.e. doesn't require a key or the ability to see it) and that doesn't take up much more room than the rifle would.

If not, I guess my options are:
Pistols scattered about, rifle in a central location.
Rifles scattered about, unloaded, magazines in a pistol safe.

I believe Fort Knox offers some quick-access long-gun boxes. Saw them in this video:

^This link goes to the correct time for the specific long-gun vault, but I recommend watching the whole thing, VERY INFORMATIVE.

Edit: Here is a link to the product page I just dug up for ya ;) http://www.ftknox.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=59&product_id=59

Marketed as the "Shotgun Safe"

Hope this helped,

Alana, that's perfect. I can even put a handgun on top with a paddle holster.

I have a V-Line ClosetVault for my Remington 870 shotgun. I've had it for about 10 years and it works great for me.

Good luck!

Is this to prevent theft or prevent others from access to the trigger?

I have used the Pro-Lok GunLok for years on my quick access guns.

When locked with the key, they are locked. When unlocked, you have to press the cylinder and one of the two release buttons. The other one's a dummy. Then it just pulls right off.

Sounds too simple, but the first time I looked at one was when a guy at the LGS handed it to me and said 'try to get this one open, it's unlocked'. I couldn't do it. My wife couldn't do it, friends couldn't do it, my father had seen them, and had been shown how to do it before, and still couldn't do it.

Won't prevent theft but will prevent unauthorized access to the trigger. Plus, you can get it off in less than a second.

Key defeats the purpose.

Theft deterrent (not prevention, because for that I'd probably need something more than a quick-access safe) and access prevention. Want to keep them in each room without worrying about a burglar using them on me or my nephew pulling that fun lever that makes the loud noise.

It's hard to describe. I think youtube may help here.

Edit: Ugh. Don't bother looking at youtube. Only video I found was made by a idiot.

I like that a lot, how much are they getting I didn't see the price, thanks

That Sentry Safe seems to be going for about $350-400 on Google Shopping via quick search. That lock kit looks to be about $30. But I do like the design of the Sentry. I'll have to see what my funding is when I get to the point I'm putting a long gun in every room...hopefully by then I'll have a better paying job and can afford it ;)

Thank you, I might get the wife to accept that for the bedroom. I could hide it behind the curtains, and it would blend in nicelly. Bachlors don't have these problems.

It fits in the closet really easily.

My screaming anti-gun liberal wife and kid #2 was the impetus for all this.

Slightly OT but she decided things societally arent getting better, and she wanted something for when I travel. She works in CT and the recent home invasion trial may have had an influence. We have small kids so under the bed isn't a good move. they are getting bigger so keys in the lock weren't the way we wanted to go.

She can't handle the shotguns - recoil adverse - but can stick 20 shots into a 4" circle at 100 yards with the AR and the Eotech so it's the way to go for us...

Anyway sorry for the OT drift. The cabinet is compact and quick to access. We looked at a bunch of stuff and this worked best for us. It holds at best two long guns - its not really a safe, more somewhere to keep things tidy - but it does the job.
