I wuz going from memory. :( What's a thousand meters per second or so among friends? :D

Exactly. I couldn't remember either, so I looked it up. I don't have the memory to remember all the det velocities of all the explosives when there just isn't any reason too. It's not like I get to blow stuff up anymore.

Here is one that might apply since it is commonly available. Tannerite is supposed to detonate if struck by a projectile travelling at 2000 FPS or above. Still haven't located the detonation velocity though. Since ammonium nitrate is one of the ingredients, I suppose the det velocity is at least equal to 2700 MPS.

Having had several 45/70s Ruger No 1,Browning 1885 and 86 and a Sharps 1874 the Sharps is the only one that doesn't beat me up but it weighs close to 14 lbs, great for shooting from a bench not so much for carrying. Long Range Express 34" heavy barrel enen with 520 gr bullets it's like shooting a giant 22.

Ahhh, the age old quandary, do you want to carry it, or shoot it? I have a Ruger #1 Tropical in 405 Winchester. I put a limbsaver pad on it so it is doable. With the original Ruger pad, it was brutal. Being a Tropical, it is pretty heavy. It's on the cusp. You can carry it and shoot it, but neither is ideal. I imagine if I was face to face with a lion, that rifle would weigh like a feather and kick like a 22 RF.

I suspect the reason this new carbine is such a beast isn't really due to the pad. The stock has a fair about of drop at the heel. That is great for iron sights, but will make the gun want to lever up into your face. That is NEVER a fun experience.

I do know that a .44 Special out of a 6.5” 629 wont set off a jar of Tannerite…I spilled a whole jar all over the ground with a once in a lifetime shot at a hundred yards once. :(

Stay safe.
