The local shop has an HK p7 for sale- it looks good; very little if any wear on the finish. Comes with 3 magazines and the box. The price is good when compared to asking prices on gunbroker. My main concern about buying this gun is that it isn't made any longer; if parts replacement is needed, there could be difficulty in finding the parts.
I would appreciate your thoughts on this issue as to whether or not my concerns are unfounded and if so why?
Many Thanks

I don't know about parts issues for that gun, but it is one of my grail guns. If the gun was in good condition I would take a chance on it!
Especially in the US, I suspect you can find a gunsmith to make you any parts that may need to be replaced.

Keep the gas port clean and you are highly unlikely to break anything- they are very stout guns. Last I checked Wolff still offered recuperator springs and these would be a good idea to replace, or at least keep a spare on hand.
An obstructed port will degrade the effectiveness of the gas-delay system and cause battering of the frame.

I love mine. Get it and I think you will too.:)

I don't know about the P7 specifically but I took my VP70z to a gunsmith about twenty years ago. The pistol ended up going back to Georgia (I think?). For the travel the repair went quickly and without any hassle. I may be wrong to base advice on that experience but I have a good feeling about HK's service. If you like the price on that gun buy it! They're not going to get cheaper or easier to find.

I bought a P7M13 back in the mid 80's when they first showed up here. $450 NIB. Its one of the few guns I wish Id kept.

They are great natural shooters, once you get used to the MOA. One of the most accurate out of the box autos Ive owned. Also one of the fastest reloads going. Just make damn sure your finger is off the trigger. :)

If you plan on carrying one, and are one of those people that likes to switch guns with the day of the week, these arent the gun for you. They are different enough that you need to dedicate yourself to it and instill that handling muscle memory fully in your head. I let a lot of people shoot mine, and a lot of them seemed to have trouble grasping how they worked. The cocking lever, as simple as it is, was a challenge for a lot of people.

I sold it a few years after I bought it, and doubled my money then.

I had a P7 M8 years ago. I bought it cheap and traded into something that cost more than the P7 was worth at the time, but I really wish I still had the P7 cause its worth A LOT more than what I traded into back then. Make sure this P7 is actually a P7 and not the HK PSP- similar pistol, but the PSP has a euro style heel mag release, and is worth less than a P7.

The euro style "heel" releases get a lot of bad press here in the states, and I think thats more from the games crowd insisting on speed reloads than anything else. With a little time in practice with guns that have them, they really aren't a bad thing or slow, and in some cases, a better thing, as they retain the mags better and are less apt to drop them inadvertently. But, like most things unfamiliar to Americans (like HK 90 series rifle triggers), they are bad. :)

At the time I had my gun, there were two holster makers making specific holsters for them, and they were not the greatest. The one I ended up with, was a Desantis, and it didnt protect the guns lever type mag release, and I would find the mag that was in the gun on the seat when I got out, or it would sometimes drop to the ground at my feet when I got out. My seatbelt seems to have been the culprit for the release. If Id had that heel release, or a properly constructed holster, it wouldnt have been an issue.

The PSP is a P7. The P7M8 introduced the side-mounted magazine catch and heat shield.

About 10 years ago, they were selling the demilled German police P7’s… they were about $700 if memory serves. I really wished I would have picked one up. I’ve been in love with the P7 since I saw one in the cover of G&A many years ago.

I started looking seriously for a P7 when they could still be found for around $1K. I typically am in no rush to own any gun and HATE to pay retail let alone retail +. When I finally gave up the bargain hunt I very begrudgingly ended up paying $1800 for a LNIB safe queen. Turns out it wasn't such a bad deal even if it is the most I ever paid for a gun.

I bought mine in 2009 for $600 off of GlockTalk. Haha, remember that place. (It’s still around)

CAI imported PSP with 6 mags. It was a heck of a deal even then.

To this day, I still regard it as the very best pistol I have ever handled or owned. I could shoot bowling pin matches with that thing scary fast. Reloads were fast enough enough for me once you got used to it.

I even was able to find a Milt Sparks holster on eBay for super cheap.

I had a P7 first, afterwards a P7M8. Both were trouble free, and I guess I never worried about replacement parts. I purchased the P7M8 new back in the '80s and still have it. I guess if something breaks, I'll figure it out.

In short, If I were in the market, and a nice one became available at a price I could bear to pay, I'd buy it...YMMV

Back when I was in the academy,” West Covina PD used to issue the P7M13 to their officers. Needless to say, the rest of us who had S&W, Glock, etc. were pretty envious.

Good luck, I hope you can realize that P7 dream.

Stay safe.

I have had one P7 that had a broken firing pin bushing, which is one of the hardest spare parts to get for the P7. I was lucky to find a couple and am keeping one in my parts box.

I have one of the rare P7s that were issued to the German army bodyguards and a P7M13.

I bought two P7s when Top Gun Supply had a bunch in about 2008. Carried one for a couple of years.
I ended up trading them for other things, as I am prone to do at times. Oh well.

I had a Bundswhere marked PSP. I think I paid about $500 for it.

It was phenomenal. Great shooting, super accurate, nice flat recoil. Perfect for putting a full mag into a fist sized group as fast as you could.

Got hot as **** though. I really hope Hk modernizes and reintroduces it.

gotboost, the Glock put paid on the P7 and its kin; just too cheap for HK to compete, and meet the same criteria; being instantly ready to fire. The Walther CCP is the only currently mfgd gas retarded pistol; never even handled one.
But yeah, they are really neat pistols; got mine with a C&R a bunch of years ago, for not all that much money. Even did silly things like shoot .380s thru' it...actually worked, after a fashion. The self compensating gas system is amazing.
I was astounded to see where prices went on them; it gets a range run now and again. Just something entirely different.
For the OP, go for it. You won't be disappointed.

You guys are evil! I have had my P7 lust in check for many years; now it is back!

That is my semi-auto grail gun!

I'm old enough to remember when they were an item in the Gunzines. The reviewers were dazzled, and perplexed. Nothing new under the sun? :)
