Hey guys,

I used to make fun of my friend who's dream gun is a Semi-auto M2. But now because of the ban, I'm kinda interested in one, the Serbu in particular. A .50 always struck me as impractical, the cartridges cost too much, ranges restrict their use to certain days or hours, nearest 1000 yard range is 3 hours away. That said I'm starting to feel all my firearms purchases are a little too conservative. Might be nice to buy a fun, outlandish gun. So what arguments can you guys give me to buy a .50?

Remember the school carnival when you were a kid, and you could take a few whacks at the old Chrysler K car with an 8lb sledge hammer for the price of a couple tickets?

Imagine the thrill of doing in that old K car with a 50cal from 1500 yards out. Man that would be something.....

Now if I only had $2200 for the Serbu and $200 for the K car I'd be set.
I'm kind of on a .223 and Hotwheels budget myself. :(

Edited to add: Wow, I just looked up K cars and I guess I was a kid about a decade prior to their peak production. I still have a sick fascination to shoot one of those things though.

10 reasons for Chickenfried to buy a .50:

10. Most women agree...."Bigger is better."

9. "Too much is never enough."

8. "When you need a big gun, nothing else will do."

7. "Knockdown Power..."

6. "No one at the range will make fun of you......ever."

5. "You can tell your friends that telephone poles and cement blocks are not longer 'cover' they are merely 'concealment.'"

4. "In case of TEOTWAWKI.......Zombies may learn to drive. Comets may cause large trucks to try to kill you. Huge earth worms may try to eat you. You need engine-block, large beast stopping power"

3. "My gun is bigger than your gun."

2. "You can say you prefer guns too big for schwarzenegger!"

And the number one reason why Chickenfried should buy a 50............

1. "Chicks dig it."

If you don't have enough money to buy a BFG outright, Serbu is offering just the receiver for 1K. You then have up to a year to get it finished for $1,195 which amounts to the going price right now.

When you look at prices for other big bore rifles and pistols, .50's really are cheaper! Case in point, you can get Talon .50 ball ammo from Ammoman for $1.25 a round, go price some .338, .375, .408 and you'll see that the .50 is about the same or cheaper. Same with pistol ammo, check .454, .480, 500 and you'll come up with the same results.

I didn't mention match ammo that can run anywhere from $3-5 dollars a round but most people don't shoot it on a regular basis.

Reasons to own a .50 BMG rifle...

Hunting trains is really dangerous. You take a Ruger SRH in .454 Casull or a S&W .500 along as a back-up gun, as that's why they made 'em in the first place. Isn't it?

To defend against terrorist-hijacked jet airliners.

To make legiscritters lose sleep by reminding them that they ARE in fact accountable for their actions despite wishful thinking and arrogance to the contrary.

It's the most humane way to hunt cars and trucks.

To remind coyotes that they're varmints by blasting 'em into red mist.

To demonstrate to the Girly-nator that you've been Pumping Up! With Hans und Frans.

To make Dianne Feinstein widdle her knickers.

And most of all, to force that entity we refer to as Da Gubmint to remember just what, exactly, it is By, For, and About, lest We The People become ticked off enough to be inclined to start camping on rooftops that have clear overlooks and good fire lanes...

To make legiscritters lose sleep by reminding them that they ARE in fact accountable for their actions despite wishful thinking and arrogance to the contrary.

you probably mean it in good humor but that is a ridiculous statement that could one day get you into trouble.

Like the saying on a tee shirt a friend with a 50 wears says "The next best to being there...". The quote is above a picture of the M82A from Barrett.

The picture and statement on a friends T-shirt that has been all over the internet that I like is "vote from the rooftops"!

Stealthmode, if they're not losing sleep ALREADY, then why are they passing laws banning guns that no-one's ever used in a crime anywhere? The statement is a reflection of what the legiscritter's actions seem to shouting so much louder than their words.

Not to say that you're wrong. It IS a pretty ridiculous thing to say, right on the face of it. However, I am not much worried, as merely observing and commenting on what looks like obviously paranoid, pre-emptive citizen dis-armament carries no threat along with it, either expressed or implied. Like you said, I really do mean it in a spirit of sarcasm and good humor. Political accountability in this country went by the wayside a long time ago.

Which gets me to the sentiments expressed in the LAST line, which have very little to do with politics. And even LESS to do with good humor.

And if expressing opinions like that on an Internet forum is going to attract trouble to me, then so be it. The agents of such "trouble" will recieve a rather large dose of it indeed, make no mistake. And not just from the likes of me, either.

You see, that's when we'll have reached the point of what that oh-so-famous T-shirt says, "When all else fails..."

Suffice it to say the Gubmint hasn't done what I think it takes to make me any kind of a threat. Not advocating anything either by expressiong warnings. I don't WANT revolution, I'm trying to prevent it. However, my patience and/or tolerance isn't infinite.

Thinking in terms of "open season" on the local political apparatus causes me no worries. And I'm not joking about that at all.

'Nuther good reason to get a .50: MOLON LABE!
