This is using the same Shilen 260 Remington barrel & Model 10 Action from the rifle I first built several years ago. But I decided on a complete overhaul & rebuild. Stripped it back down to parts & sandblasted. Added a new International barrel nut, and Cerakoted everything myself in Armor Black. Baked the parts in my homemade curing oven as well. Turned out nice.

Much better than the bluing the Cerakote replaced.

I’ve also added some parts as well. It’s using a Talley Picatinny rail & ADM scope mount holding my new US Optics TS-20. Replaced the Glades Arm. Bolt Handle with a Titanium Handle from Lumley. The Bolt Knob I also machined from a round bar of 6AL4V Titanium. Lumley also supplied a Titanium rear DLC coated BAS (Action Screw), which is retaining the S7 tool steel firing pin I machined, and coupled with a 20lb Flat Wire, Chrome Silicon spring. The pin is fit to the PTG Bolt Head I’ve been using. Given the extra firing pin weight & fit and set for max fall, I get full primer ignition, at only about .032” or so FP protrusion, perfectly centered strike & no cratering. (Builders & Reloaders love this stuff!) the Chassis is a Mirage URL & replaces the MDT I had. I also Cerakoted it but in Tactical Grey. And the Bipod is also one of my projects; machined from 2024 Billet, Carbon Fiber & Titanium Rod. I made a thread showing it previously. This is the rifle the Bipod was designed & built for. The whole Rig weighs in at 16lbs. I couldn’t be happier with how this one turned out. I’ve had THIS exact build pictured in my mind for the last several years. I started collecting the parts over Winter & doing the Cerakote & rebuild this past Spring. Unfortunately the heat & humidity of of Summer brought everything I do to a stand still. So I was only able to finish everything since it’s cooled down. Not bad for a One Eyed, One Armed, Crippled pug. like me, eh..:)

Looks great, Dave!
Like brand new!

I like your rifle oven. What did you make it from?
I tried a salvaged school locker, from the thousands I’ve removed and replaced in schools around here. It was too small, even the Rockford schools swanky high school lockers.
I didn’t need a whole rifle done at the time and made do with a kitchen model.

Thanks. Yes, lockers work great! I didn’t have a source for any, otherwise that’s exactly what I’d have used. I actually had a large steel rolling shelf unit I wasn’t using, so I cut off the phone so sides & used strips of the steel sheet to basically make a locker, or a cubby. Found a thick wire element that was the shape of a “W”, so I bent it out longways to stand straight up. Then used Ceramic wool on the sides and lined the Ceramic with foil. Installed a K-type Thermocouple in the back.

Very nice!

I want to do the same thing to a used model 11 barreled action I bought yesterday. I want to buy a new barrel and start from scratch but I've never done this before and don't really know what I need.

:D

Are you on Savage Shooters? If not, go there and start reading. I’m there.. can’t miss me. Same name. Contact me anytime you like. I can go through everything you need to become a “BONAFIDE Savage-Smith”, LOL:D I’ve been a Savage 10/110 rifle fan since my first High Power rifle at age 18. A Model 111 in 30-06. Owned several more since.

Unfortunately I lost a bunch of pictures when a computer crashed after a power failure.

I have a Savage model 11 barreled action that was purchased just for this purpose. It now has a Savage Model 12 heavy Varmint barrel 223, Boyd's At One Thumbhole stock and an Athlon Helos 6-24X56 scope. Also have a Savage Model 10 I am thinking of rebarreling with a Shilen 4 groove 223.

Dave has helped me along the way too!

I want to purchase a 6mm br barrel for my model 11 action which I’ve read is just like a 10 or 12 action. I’ve always had a wide benchrest stock in mind but seeing David’s AR type grip on his stock/chassis, that might be more comfortable? Is a Shaw barrel the best bang for the buck?

Well done, I really like that! Hope it performs as good as it looks.

Sweet!

I have a Penrod barrelled old 110. The one w the internediate action screw spacing. Straight taper .243 stainless bbl w 700 style recoil.lug......left handed. Thing was rebuilt in the 80s and never shot.

Absolutely hate wood work anymore but am thinking Boyds tacticool for a short action and just fill and mill for proper screw spacing/ magwell.

Inherited the rifle
