Been sitting on a .243 for the better part of 3 years, with the total sum input being replacing the rusty bored barrel with a factory take-off, swap in an Xmark Pro (with one spring adjustment removed and the other backed out) and getting it sighted. I finally decided to take it out and shoot it again a couple of weeks ago, and It shot really pretty well, with 95gr ballistic tips over a max charge of RL-19 going into 3/4" clusters.
I was once again ready to put it in the back of the gun case for another interminable stay.......It came out so rarely I dont even have a picture of it.

About a week later I ran across an X-Cal barrel in 6.5CM (which may not be my favorite cartridge, but I seem to build more of them than I do ARs) for cheap.
Why not says me, and I placed a bid for noticeably less than what the barrel should sell for.
Two days later I was trying to come up with what I was going to DO with this 6.5 barrel that I'd managed to win and now had on the way.
Since Id JUST played with the .243, I actually remembered I had it and decided to go ahead and USE the action on hand rather than going looking for another action to build from (this was ostensibly my wife "hunting" rifle as well so that OBVIOUSLY needed replacing...since she never used it....but that's a story for another day).

Old rifle got pulled out, the crappy worn out adl to bdl converted stock got pulled and the rifle stripped down.
This gun was one of my first attempts at using Durablue/Duracote, and I had blasted it one day then painted the next.
Anywhere else this probably wouldn't have been a problem, but here in Hilo, that meant rust had started, and rust vanes quickly started appearing under the Duracote. They never got bad enough for it to lift or chip like the Cerakote on my muzzleloader did, but they were visible under the finish.
The ones on my Abolt are noticeable as well, and it's on my list of things to fix....eventually.

Anyway, I measured the barrel to bolt clearance and expected headspace (used barrel so it was already chambered). I found them to be such that using a .250 recoil lug (what the barrel was shanked for), would give me about .005 clearance on the bolt, and headspace tight on a go gauge.
Not too shabby for a 50yr old rifle and a used barrel......probably more luck than anything else. I had expected to have the barrel set back and then rechamber it.

Then the action was pulled all the way down and stripped of Duracote.

PTG recoil lug came today, so I finished stripping the Duracote left inside the action with the blaster (which actually took some work), and finished the action in flat black. I also blasted the barrel and the random flash hider I'm using as a thread protector. The bolt handle got blasted and Duracoated black as well, and I have a stainless PTG bolt shroud coming...tho that WAS meant for the other 6.5 I built last year.

Here's the completed barreled action waiting for new stock! and what it would look like if I dropped it back into its old stock.

I've been curious about the Promag Archangel stocks for the bolt guns for a while. I HAVE handled and shot a Mosin wearing one, and it actually felt pretty good for the limited (less than a magazine) number of shots I fired thru it. So I had my FFL buddy order one. If it's horrible I might swap this over to a chassis since I've never owned a chassis rifle.

That barreled action looks pretty sharp. I never really gave any thought to the Archangel stock set. They're only running $170 with a decent list of features. I'll be looking forward to what you think about it. That's half the price of the KRG Bravo I've been thinking about.
Im really curious as well, my limited experience with the Mosin was favorable, but i didnt get to mess with the settings or see if there was any other possible issues.

@LoonWulf

Nice!!!!! Looks good!!!! I really like the black finish on the receiver!

Im really happy with it too!

The Black reciever with stainless barrel look is really growing on me. Only gun ive done it with besides this one is my .22. Didnt really like the idea of it till i saw it in person.

I dig the black receiver and stainless barrel look too. Ended up that way on my 35 whelen savage 110, and I don't think I'll change it now. It just works sometimes.

You ever sell any of your builds?
Most of the pure project guns eventually get sold to fund other projects.
I've given a few away though, when I either couldn't get what I wanted out of them or simply didn't feel like selling them
I'd rather give the gun to somebody who appreciates it then sell it to someone whos only looking for a deal.

The only completed one I currently have on hand is the carbon barreled 6.5 from last year.

All in all, for something that came out of a blister pack, It's pretty snazzy.
The basic feel of the stock is pretty nice, the forend is thin enough to wrap your hand around but surprisingly stiff for a poly stock. The grip would probably be perfect for smaller-handed shooters, but I usually have to remove material to keep my trigger finger from dragging and this stocks no different, otherwise the grip feels good. The butt/comb are comfortable and the whole thing points surprisingly natural. POB is right in front of the mag well with the varmint contour 25" tube.

Adjustments are solid, and there is minimal wobble. Far better than I expected for a 150 dollar stock.

The Aluminum bedding pillars are well set, and it comes with screws that are exactly the right length which is nice.

Mag seems pretty good, and the fit is loose enough for easy insertion and removal, but not sloppy enough to be annoying, looks like it feeds fine as well.

The ONE negative I have is that the stock I have NEEDS to be bedded. there is a high spot at the bridge in front of the trigger causing the action to teeter.
Flamed the stock and bedded it with marine tex the lazy way...put screws in and tighten alternately until the action sits the way you want.....
Actually, another thing to consider is that if you have a tapered lug instead of a straight side, you'll need to open the lug recess sides a bit, which isn't hard.

These pictures were actually taken BEFORE bedding, but I'm putting them here......

Can you explain this method, I've never heard of it before.
Flaming is just so that the epoxy will bond to the stock plastic stock a little better, and i was too lazy to make a bunch of mechanical locks.

To do the bedding job "right" i should have removed the high spot or shimmed up the action till it was level rather than just varying tension on the action screws to adjust how the action sat in the stock.

I call it the lazy way because you just wipe down the inlet, slap on the bedding compound and release agent, then screw it back together. Its actually how most factory bedded rifles are done from what Ive seen.

I think the most important question is, what's the story with the hot pink 1911 on your bench?!
That is, or was, Pinky!
Custom Cerakoted RIA 9/22TCM. My ffl buddy really didnt like the color, and no matter what we did we couldnt convince him to let it live.....
So Pinky is getting blasted and Duracoated back to black.......I was seriously considering leaving the inside pink just to annoy him.

I actually really like the color, and who ever did the Cerakote did a really good job, so im bummed to change it.

Thanks now I know. Do similar type puhi ga on tire plug patches. Set fire to the glue then roll it out from the center.

You need to start a go fund me to save Pinky! (or is it to late?)
I will kick in $5, then you could buy Pinky and let it live with you.
I would have never thought I would say a pink gun looked good, but it's not bad.
.
I tried to buy Pinky actually, but it just bothers him for some reason and hed still have to see it at the range......so as a poke in the eye, ive considered buying a an EAA Stock 2 that is for sale locally, and duracosting that two tone fushcia and pastel pink.......
Not sure if watching him loose his biscuits is worth the cost tho...... probably....

If the question is "is it worth X to get my buddie's panties in a wad?" The answer is always yes, if you're a good friend.

Agreed. I’m going stainless when I swap on my old worn out .270. Parked action, stainless barrel, and at least for a while it will have the factory Tupperware but a salt and pepper Boyd’s stock sounds like a nice fit.

That's what friends are for right?:D

My all stainless American was in a boyds pepper stock for a while, i really liked it.

Did the scope base, ring, scope hula and ended up with Burris pic bases, Arken low 30mm rings, and an Athlon g1 Midas Btr 2.5-15x50.
I installed a small piece of pic rail in the Mlock slots under the forend, and the pic mount for my Javelin.
I think that "flash hider"....i cant see it doing squat for anything..... Will stay on there as a thread protector until I can decide if I'm going to put a muzzle brake linear comp or just a matching thread protector on it..... Or hey I guess it's not really hurting anything I guess it could just stay there......

Nice looking build! Let us know how it shoots.

I'm currently waiting on a barrel for a new build. Basically it will look like Remington's Tactical rifle and will be chambered in 308 Winchester.

Those are fun builds, and almost always shoot well!
My Carbon barreled 6.5 was built from a 700 police barreled action. If theres one regret is i dont shoot .308 so couldnt even try it out before pulling the barrel off.....tho i suppose its likely id have ended up having to buy another action and stock if it did shoot as well as i suspect it would have.

The mil spec, police and sendero were really the only 700s I like recently
Agreed. I really like the police rifles. There’s a barrel on one of the auction sites now that is very similar to a police barrel and it might just be mine. I’m less than $5 away from being outbid though so I don’t expect to win it. At $60 shipped I would do it though. Add some time and effort for barrel threading and probably a trim back to about 18”
