Agreed. I really like the police rifles. There’s a barrel on one of the auction sites now that is very similar to a police barrel and it might just be mine. I’m less than $5 away from being outbid though so I don’t expect to win it. At $60 shipped I would do it though. Add some time and effort for barrel threading and probably a trim back to about 18”
What chambering/bore dia you looking for? ill keep an eye out. Ive got at least one .243 700 barrel and maybe one or two more in my boxes of crap.

I really don’t care much. The reason I’m interested in the 308 barrel is that I have a bunch of other stuff in 30 caliber and I already have 308 dies. A 308 capable of using really heavy and long bullets through the magazine is interesting. I would also consider a 7mm08 for the same reason... only I would have to buy dies, but I really do want to try out a 7-08

Well you're welcome to that 243 barrel if you want it there's only a couple of small scratches on it I could probably stand out and refinish since I have to spray duracoat sometime this week anyway.

I didn't have a chance to try one but the 700 long range I believe it was called, it looked nice and had some better options and was cheaper the the mil spec and the sendero maybe even the police.

$60 is a good price I paid $125 shipped for my last mil spec take off, it was a unfired 10th Anniversary tho.

Remington should have done the mil spec in 7-08.

Remington should have done the mil spec in 7-08.
I remember there being an article in guns and ammo a while ago, like 2000 ish, They was talking about police / patrol rifles and there were three. The two remember being in it were the Kimber police, and Remington 700 police.
I do remember that the Kimber was offered in 7-08, how the Remington was only 308. I always thought the 7-08 would be a better option for most situations, and wondered why the Remington rifle wasn't chambered in a Remington cartridge.

It is not uncommon for a sniper or counter sniper to not know anything about reloading or various cartridges. They are the future leaders as they get promoted and the lock on a NATO cartridge is there to stay.
We have the same rust, instant, here in wet humid FL, Have you tried Hold from Brownells? It will hold a raw steel barrel for 30-45 days without any rust or any oil used here in FL. I wash it off with three rag scrubs with acetone and apply the finish. I have two prepped Rem barrels in the shop at the moment, awaiting finish.

That makes sense, and truthfully the practicalities probably out weigh the (MY) perceived advantages lol...... i can intellectualize that now.....as a budding gun and cartridge nut, ill admit i was more than a little mystified why they wouldnt pick the "obviously" superior round (sound familiar?).

Ill have to look at that stuff from Brownells. Ive not seen it before, thank you!
I have had some success with the wd40 specialist anti rust storage stuff, but havent tried it on any steel in the white as of yet, mostly use it for storage on stuff i dont shoot very often.

To late now but it would have been a great April fools joke for your friend to tell him Pinky was so popular 2 or 3 other people asked you to build one for them. (and you even got lots requests from THR to buy it)

Looking forward to see how the new rifle shoots.

I've found wd-40 attracts water too much, I haven't tried the anti rust stuff.... But awhile back I had a stuck case in the .22-250 so we used the ol clp to bust her loose (couple drops down the tube, let it sit overnight, dropped the rod down the barrel the next afternoon and the bolt SPRUNG open no ramming required), since then, I just smear a DAB all over and have had VERY good results!

I should have!..... it didnt ocure to me lol

Heres the results of the first (and only) group fired after sight in (which took 3 shots).
All the rest.of the rounds fired were used on a steel plate or random berm crap.

Interestingly this group is two shooters and somewhere between 7 and 10rnds...im pretty sure I shot 5, and think Del did as well, but i wasnt actually counting.
Pictures upside down, 30-06 hole should be low right.

Regular wd-40s great for completely soaking something....like a muzzleloader....before it gets actually cleaned. It pulls in water, and does an ok job of lifting soft carbon and other crap, but it sucks as a rust preventative.

The specialist is...... different.
Ill grab a picture when my son gets off me......

Nother minor update......

I still havent gone shooting since the last time this was out, but ive been playing with it quite a bit.

The Archangel stock still continues to impress. The adjustables are a little wobbly but not bad, the thing FEELS really nice from any position besides standing offhand. Tho alot of that could be the 12+ lbs of weight.
Overall balance and stability with the varmint weight 25" barrel are excellent.

There were 3 things that did need work tho.

The Xmark trigger still had both return springs in it, and pulled at 3.5lbs.
I removed both, and replaced the one at the front (not accessible from outside the gun) with a lighter spring i had in my random pile of springs. Trigger is now adjusted to 2lbs, and breaks nice and clean.....i may still end up splurging on a TT primary like ive got in all my other 700 and clones, but for now the Xmark pro will do just fine.

Second was the muzzle device. This one was easy, as id upgraded the brake on my carbon 6.5 to a nicer one. The old brake got blasted to match the stainless barrel and timed. Havent shot it yet, but even tho the bore was way oversized for the 6.5, it still did a good job on thr lighter carbon barreled gun....cant imagine thats gonna change much.

Third and most noticeable besides the trigger, was i got tired of banging my hand into the scope when running the bolt fast.
To remedy this I picked up some 10-24 to 5/16 conversion studs of ebay. They are pretty nicely made, and well finished....i dont think id trust bashing a bolt open or closed to the relatively small shank, but it'll work for a range toy lol.

I lopped the ball off the handle, ground the stub to the angle that i wanted the bolt handle to stick out at, center punched it, then drilled and taped it.
I finalized the angle compared to the tapped hole so that the studs flange hit flat, and tapered the parts to make it all fit kinda close.
I then used steel bed to epoxy the 10-24 side, into the bolt handle shank. Screwed the ebay knob on and played with it for a bit.....much happier.

Hilo is big island....the cane here has been gone from around Hilo proper longer than ive lived here.

Maui would probably be around Kahalui, tho I could be wrong ive never lived there, only visited for school sports and a couple hunting trips.

I THINK your probably thinking of Haleiwa on Oahu, thats been a surf town in oahus sugar cane country for a very long time.

That said even Oahu and Mauis sugar cane are mostly gone now, and with the last eruption here a lot of the folks living down in lower puna lost their bushes.....not a whole lot of bush folk left out there in the wild due to habitat loss.
They moved into town.......

Hilo was a little, dinky town called “upcountry” by the locals because it was on “high ground” which was maybe forty feet above sea level. It was south west of the old whaling town Lahaina that’s on the top left side of the island. IIRC, there couldn’t have been maybe a hundred people. This was 1994ish.

You’d be driving down some crap dirt road and all of a sudden some filthy hippy looking dude would pop out of the sugar cane. They would set up tents to live in and smoke dope where no one would find them. They’d make a living by scrounging sea shells and selling them to tourists

The town looked exactly like something out of a Hemingway novel.

Haiku maybe? (Tho you could well be right, while ive never heard of a Hilo on Maui, theres alot of duplicates in names here) its up-country maui and you do drive tru the cane fields....still kinda like that up there.
Lots changed tho, even since the late 90s when we were playing tennis and baseball over there.
Last time i was there its was mostly abandoned cars and garbage you see half tucked into old cane fields.......

Worked up some new loads for the Carbon 6.5, and since i had a handful left, i decided to try them in this gun......this one needs a nickname.......

I also dropped the gun on its scope last night, so it needed sighting anyway.

It took a few rounds to get on but here are two consecutive groups, i adjusted left a click and up 2 before the second group.

This ones frustrating, becauss Im positive i broke the shot left trying not to mess up the developing group.....

Nice how has that vg6 gamma been, blow much dust and is it reducing any recoil. I have a 6.5 waiting to be used.
Thats an Ebay Gamma knock off, same basic design but the thru hole is .33+/- and the over all dia is .920, as opposed to the Gamas .85ish (I think)

I really like the Gammas tho. Ive used them three times now, and been impressed with how well they do for how short they are. They also don't blast stuff all over you, but the side blast is impressive.

That rifle is like a Functioning drunk, it does good but it falls over all the time. Insert name of the person we all know or grown-up with who is like that for a nickname of the rifle lol.

Dang, you must have rifles just stacked in those big metal storage containers out back.

Nice work. :)
I tried to get a 20' shipping can.....i got told no.......think shes on to me.....

Actually, for the most part my safe is like s vacation rental for firearms. Its only got a couple that are permanent residents.

Its only fallen once......... that it can remember.....

Honestly when i say it "fell" its more like "the monkey dropped it"..... I pulled it out of the cabinet and got the muzzle caught. Yanked it right out of my hand and pivoted the scope straight onto its turret and bells.

Very cool project, thx for sharing and as always.
Shoot Small...
J
Thanks Jim.....im trying, im trying! Long way to go tho......
