"Discreet" rifle case..?

My Kel Tec SU-16C folder fits nicely in a tennis racquet bag. My SIL built an AR pistol with a “folding” stock. It fits into a small backpack. He can open the stock and fire in seconds. I can see the need to be able to covertly bring a long gun along in several situations. There is a lot of clever ideas presented above.

Where is everyone carrying their rifles that they need to fool everyone about what is inside? A mall? a movie theator?

Or are you guys hoping the deer are saying to themselves "its just a violin case, he is no threat"?
Hotels are a good reason to have a discreet bag. That’s good enough for me. Best covert gun case I have seen was a few years ago. I was at the local outdoor shooting range. Two men that looked like they were from Tokyo dressed in suits showed up to the stall next to me. They were both carrying a “Hello Kitty” lunch box. They each had a Glock 17 in each one. They shot a box of ammo apiece then left. If that lunch box was sitting in the back of a car, no way I would have thought it was a firearm case. Pretty sneaky for sure.

Apartment, when I had just moved in. As a convenient expedient I used a curtain rod box. Worked good for a while until the box started fraying and decaying with use. Also NG for multiple rifles. Make sure the closure flaps are secure so the gun doesn't slide out.

I have also used a De Walt electric drill case for a handgun. That was good since it had a recess shaped like a gun anyhow.

Yakuza hit men, fer sure.

A hard sided guitar case, with a full size ak47 sticker on the outside would get you noticed and then dismissed. Notice it, and be like what? Then, oh guitar guy. Cool sticker man. Never another thought.

Interesting viewpoint however the vast majority of the unwashed masses would never associate my not so large MOLLE bag as a "rifle case". They're not that observant or that smart.......

Even they know that to them MOLLE is associated with "military", and "tactical". And while many people who carry such bags to look "cool" , (heck I carried my books & such around college in an ALICE pack back in the day) going grey man has it's advantages; some of the unwashed masses are that observant or smart. It's the equivalent of the forementioned pickup with a Punisher window decal and an "I don't call 911" sticker. My truck is very unassuming looking, no stickers, nothing to see here, move along....

Looks like we'll have to agree to disagree.

Unless your gun breaks down, anything longer than a backpack will look inviting to a thief. Guitar, snow equipment, golf, tennis, etc.

For a car backseat that won't be moved? Get two old duffle bags (different brands/color) and put them next to each other. Cut a hole in the side of both so you can put as long a gun as you want between them. Throw some socks, dirty shirts and shoes around them.

Don't assume everyone goes directly to the range from home and returns.

I've been known to stop along the way to shop or dine and don't want anyone to know what's in my vehicle.

.

Maybe I'm overly paranoid but I always go directly home from the range even if I need to stop at the grocery store that I pass on the way home. I'll drop off the guns then go back to the store. The chance that someone would break into my vehicle in daylight while parked at the store is remote, but I just won't leave any guns in the car while I'm not there.

I don't have any discreet cases for my rifles, it's obvious what's in those bags. But the only neighbors who might see me loading or unloading for a range trip are gun owners too so that's not a problem.

Here in Albuquerque I'm more concerned with the catalytic converter thieves, they are so brazen they've stolen catalytic converters off of cop cars parked in front of police station in broad daylight. They'll steal them in parking lots where people park to go shopping or go to lunch during the day.

Just have to watch out for young girls who'll break in for the lunchbox. lol

I load and unload in my garage with the door closed. No need for prying eyes...

Only one neighbor knows I have guns, he and I go to the range together and he's also discrete.

One of these on nearly anything ,along with a nearly expired Radiation badge aka Dosimeter badge , fastened to it's outside should work extremely well :) A super nice accessory is a Hazmat Bio suit . Hell You can leave your Mercedes unlocked in near any Los Angeles ghetto without fear of being broken into :D

This is my go-bag format 10.5" AR.

It holds my AR pistol, light, sight, three 30rd mags, and my cmmg 22 conversion kit.

My next discreet carry project might be my old Samsonite suitcase that I had as a kid. Hard plastic sides and lock mechanism. That would be the ultimate in hotel discreet carry. A Goodwill store tattered suitcase with custom foam insert would be the shizzle for a go-kit.

How about a standard discreet carrier like the UTG one, and then add a patch for "Satellite Industries Portable Toilet Cleaner Kit - we are Number 1 in the Number 2 business!" Ad a few artful brown stains...BTW, Satellite really IS a portable toilet cleaner company.

These cases are not meant to be left in a car safe from theft. It is to not drawn unwanted attention from people living in apartments, checking in at hotels, living in a non free state, etc….
Pretty much sums up why I posted the question.
It just occurred to me that my wife keeps a rolled up yoga mat in each car so that could be pressed into service as a "case" should the need arise..? o_O

I've picked up roll-up display screen cases and sales display cases at the Salvation Army, usually with their original contents, for practically nothing.
No thief would be interested in stealing something marked "Miller Beer Pop-up Display" or "Presenting McAllen Public Library 2019"... .

For that matter, no one should be too frightened by someone carrying either of the above... .
