I played with the PDX1 410 2.5 inch in both my Win 9410 and a borrowed Judge and was not terrible impressed in either gun. sometime the patterns were great other times very lop sided.

I know we are getting side tracked here. And I apologize to the OP for my part. This will be the last time I side track here.

For those asking about the Winchester PDX1 vs buckshot out of a 410 here are some photos.

This young lady made a good shot with her 410 slug. Try telling her it won't work.

Would I recommend it? Heck no...but it will work. It was some years ago now, but the young lady is grown and married, and I don't remember the details now, but I do remember how excited she was. She was so little a 410 was about all she could shoot, which is one of the main reasons I'd hate to see it outlawed. Another is we have too many laws now.

410 slug and white tail seems best combined when using a gun and bow range shot.

I assume you mean "at" bow shot range. If so, you're spot on. I've never killed a deer with anything but a 12 gauge shotgun and buckshot. The longest shot I ever took was about 35 yards. It's funny, even when I tried hunting with a rifle, I found myself spending most of the time looking and thinking inside 35 yards. I just couldn't make myself think in terms of a longer shot. The idea of shooting at 100 or even 50 yards was just totally alien to me. I'm sure I let several deer just walk on by telling myself "too far" when they probably were well within range of my rifle, and even my ability with said rifle.

And this is an issue why?
Full chokes and slugs don't go together like peas and carrots.
I'm not an expert.
However...having hunted in a shotgun/slug only state for 45 years I do have some experience in the matter.
Slugs are generally inaccurate through a full choke.
I saw a beautiful browning 16ga auto-5 with a 10 inch lengthwise Crack in the muzzle end of the barrel that was positively made by slugs through a full choke.

That would be unlikely unless it was a very thin barrel and full or poor metal. ie I would not shoot slugs through a full choke on an old double gun with a full choke but my grampa put heaps of slugs through his old full choke Win 1897 (1930's vintage) and never hurt it. Most slugs are nearly pure lead and will safely swag through a fixed full choke with no damage. There are exceptions.

That said you are correct that tight chokes usually do not produce good accurate. Open chokes usually work better but some times a little construction does help. This is unique to each gun-slug combination Case in point, my Rem 1100 with reduced recoil slugs shoot as good or better with a modified choke tube installed as it does with any of the looser choke tubes.

Most single shot 410s and a lot of pump 410s have a full choke. And it has been this way for a very long time. I use to shoot slugs out of my dad's old Western Field single shot 410 all the time when hunting raccoons. That little single shot has a very tight full choke and I have no problems using it for turkey hunting either. I have also shot a lot of slugs out of the full choke on my 410 Mossberg 500 without issues.

Lead slugs are fine to shoot through full choke 410 barrels considering most are full choke from the factory.

Now using a copper bullet such as the Hornady Critical Defense Triple Defense shells is definitely not recommended to shoot out of a full choke. The reason is that a 410 full choke is around 0.395" - 0.398" and the bullet that Hornady uses is .41

Now I am not saying that a full choke is the best for 410 slugs, but many countless 410 slugs have been shot through a full choke for close to a century now (if not longer)

And this is an issue why?

My experience with three different styles of .410 slug in a full choke barrel with a wad retarding choke ring was that I'd get one round slug impact close to point of aim from a perfectly clean barrel, then scattered holes and keyholes as the choke fouled up.
