I would go with knock-off, as the design on the Metalform page is similar but not identical. It is clearly intended to make someone think it is Metalform, but unless that is their way of dating the mag, the mark is subtly different. I wish this was not common, but we see counterfeits everywhere these days.
These are the good ones. Cage code 1M291 is for Check-Mate Industries. They made them for the government from around 1975 to around 1985.
Whatever you do, don't get magazines with the code 30745. These are entirely bogus, and not made to spec. They often turn up at gun shows, sealed in official-looking wrap. Sellers may or may not know what they are. I've encountered sellers who would not let me open the package to check the cage code. I took the chance and bought some, and guess what? They were the dreaded 30745's. The seller refused to take them back. He's on my blacklist from now on.
"Surplus" can mean a lot of things, and you have to keep that in mind when youre buying. Some things are true surplus, overruns, or old stock, where others are things that didnt meet/pass spec, and were rejected and basically sold off as scrap. Its always a buyer-beware sort of thing.
One thing I have noticed with the USGI 1911 contract mags is, the blued mags always seemed to work better than the parkerized mags.
