It looks like Fiocchi introduced a new factory offering for 4.6x30 cartridges at SHOT.
Since the H&K P46 "UCP" handgun was canceled at the prototype stage, the only current users of 4.6x30 are those with MP-7's (and the Banshee I guess). Unless...

These small bore rounds are designed for one thing, to penetrate body armor.

When they can't get the velocity and bullet design to level that reliably penetrates new versions of body armor they go smaller in bore size to create better penetration. Even the 5.7 ammo available to citizens won't penetrate IIIA body armor unless one can get their hands on ss190 ammunition which is restricted to LE and Government by FN.

I'm pretty disinterested in 5.7, but 4.6 seems like it knows what it wants to be because afaik the manufacturers aren't trying to make it out to do anything more than defeat soft body armor and while the bullets would be difficult to source (if it got popular enough companies would make bullets for it) the case looks a lot more conducive to being reloaded, that it will last longer.

The industry and fanboys of 5.7 just want it to be the next handgun cartridge to replace 9mm and that's never going to happen.

From what I read, a number of NATO countries tested the 4.6 vs. the 5.7 and found the 5.7 superior in every way.

Germany, however, rejected those finding. Gee, I wonder why?
