Not a truck gun , that was an error , I meant just an around the house / home defense 9mm pistol .Which and why ? Consider parts availability , reliablility , and anything else ? The prices on both are the same which are around $400 new. I have had both in the last and both were reliable and good shooters.

I would probably go with a Hi-Point for a gun to be left in a vehicle.

You wouldn't be real upset if it disappeared.

Pretty reliable.

Klunky for carry, but if all its gotta do is bounce around in a ziplock bag under the seat, you're good to go.

I don't think you can go wrong with either choice, but I like the ergonomics of the XD a little better

The grip safety on the XD is a deal killer for me. Canik by default. But with a $400 budget I'd be looking at a used Glock or Smith M&P. Maybe Ruger, but I'm not up to date on current Ruger models.

Normally I would but used guns around here are selling for like new prices which is dumb. People think they are made of gold.

Neither would be my choice for home defense but of the two it would be the Canik hands down.

I don't have any experience with either except from things people tell me. You could opt for a psa dagger for $350. Its compatible with Glock parts and I've heard they are pretty reliable.

Since you mentioned parts availability. The XD. while it’s an import too, it’s backed by one of the largest US manufacturers.

Never handled/fired a Canik, though I do want one. All reviews I've seen and read E good... Very good.... But I have intimate knowledge of the XD9 and 40. They leave nothing for want with me and I know how will they function and shoot. I would trust my life/family's safety with an XD in a heartbeat!

I think the xd will have more support, mags holsters easy to deal with factory repairs etc.

That's how i voted. I happened into an xd9 for like 300-350 ten years ago or so. It shot as well as my p226. Just drilling rounds into the same hole at 15 yards...I put a grip sleeve on it.

I sold it and blew the money on something stupid and I wish I would've kept it. Great for the role you describe. Clunky and top heavy for carry. Idunno how 2006 folks were toting those xd9 "subcompacts" around...I handled one at farm king...most have weighed like 30 ounces

I have the Canik and my FiL has the Springfield. They're both reliable and good shooters, but the Canik has a better trigger.

I voted for SA based purely on the fact that I have experience with them, but not Canik.

In my experience, SA makes good reliable guns, and the service issue I had was handled very efficiently and for free as it was a waranty issue.

but the Canik has a better trigger
I'm not saying you are wrong, but the new Meta trigger on newer SA XDM Elites is quite good.

Not sure if the standard XDs use it or not.

On that note though, if choosing between the XD and XDm Elite, I'd always choose the Elite. I feel they offer enough uptick in features to make it worth it.

Between the two I would probably go with the Canik. Never really cared for the ergos of the XD (just not a good fit for my smaller size hand), the grip safety, or the trigger. Some years back I was looking for a compact 9mm. and tried the SA XD-Compact, the Glock G19, the S&W M&P Compact 9mm., and the Ruger SR9c. Best fit for me was the Ruger. Great ergos, nice sights, and with a decent trigger on it. It's also reliable and accurate.

There are other choices of course. Of the two the Canik. I have handled and shot both, the Canik fit me better.

What service issue did you have ?

My home defense gun is my carry gun - S&W Shield Plus. I live in a 55+ community that hasn't had a break-in. Ever.
If I lived in a different neighborhood, I might keep my supressed, red-dot sighted XD45 handy.
But I don't. So I don't.

Thanks all , I went with the Canik TP9SF. I got it new for $279. BRAND NEW ! It was the "One Series" where it only comes with one magazine and no holster. That was fine with me. I have extra Canik magazines at home from my prior TP9SF. man I forgot how nice that trigger and reset was !
