10MM SPP’s?

I haven’t been loading 10MM very long. I’ve probably only loaded between 300-400 rounds thus far, all range ammo. 7.5 gr 3N37 under 180 gr XTreme FMJ FN. they have a nice yet stout recoil and are plenty accurate for my uses.

Anyway, I process all my brass beforehand, deprime and wet tumble to shiny finish. I was cranking out loads tonight and came to a primer that wouldn’t seat. I wiggled the brass as sometimes if it’s not seated well that fixes it. But after a couple tries, I pulled the brass from the plate and saw it had a small primer hole. It was Blazer brand.

I knew there was some .45 ACP with small primers, but never knew there was 10MM. Never even thought to check the brass for the primer hole size.

Is this common? Are there other brands that use SPP’s?

Thanks! Buzz

I've been buying bulk lots of once-fired 10mm brass, and sorting it for primer size is part of the deal. I'd say ten percent of the brass I usually receive is spp.

<edit> Just pawing through my spp bag I see Blazer, Fiocchi, and FC headstamps. I thought I remembered some Eastern European brand as well, but didn't see any in my quick look and may just be confused.

Okay. Thanks for the info. I will definitely check closer in the future.

I have maybe 300 spp "culls" that I haven't yet loaded. I assume they'll work just fine but can't yet say.

Honestly, buying and using "once fired" handgun brass is a fairly novel experience for me. I normally buy big lots of new revolver brass and then guard them like jewels. I'm just too old and lazy to bother chasing brass from my new-fangled autoloader, so am calling the stuff disposable!

If you shoot at an indoor range, pack a small dustpan and brush.

if you shoot in the boonies, use an 8*12 tarp to catch most of the brass. Works for me.

I've not run into any SPP 10mm brass.

That's why I much prefer shooting my M610.

But, I use this when I just need to shoot more than 6 rounds at a time!

Most of this shooting has been taking place at the local indoor range which forbids picking brass up off the floor. I am offended by the policy and so ignore it, which gets me into "trouble": typically I will scrounge my brass - which involves digging through roughly a gazillion pieces of other folks' brass and occasionally finding one of my own - until the rangemaster starts yelling at me, to which I say "yeah fine whatever I'm never coming back anyway" while still bent over and hunting my brass and getting lectured. The place is big enough and impersonal enough that they never remember me, even though I'm there every week.

It was mildly amusing, but mostly just irritating, so I'm now using once-fired and leaving it where it falls. Eventually I will become competent with the Glock or realize that I'm never going to be competent with the Glock, and then stop torturing myself and the range employees either way.

If anyone wants to “dispose” of their 10mm SPP brass, send me a PM.
2/3’s of my 10mm has SPP.
I’ve got scads of SPP. Only a few LPP.

When those started to be a thing with 45 ACP brass I figured that putting it back to use if primers became scarce was a good plan. Boy has it ever been a good deal. It allows me to save my large primers for the ammo that needs it cause there is no small primer brass made. BTW still waiting for prices to go down and supplies to go up, then restock time!

Welcome to the party! I prefer magtech crimped lpp 10mm cases over the SPP - easier to ream than sort. Sorting at decapping means I have to clean separate unless I'd like to sort again. Have a few hundred now.
