I've wanted one for a coon's age...years ago, I saw one in a tiny little gun shop, but, was broke, so passed it up. Later, there was one at our local grocery/pharmacy/gun shop (when such a thing was common) but the trigger assembly didn't mate up with the rest of the gun, leaving an unsightly gap, so I bought a Smith & Wesson 586 instead. I tried to have a FFL friend order the short barreled version. Too late. The last one I saw at a "reasonable" price was a rental gun when the corner gun shop went out of business. It looked like someone had "polished" it with a drill motor and steel wire brush! :(
Maybe I could have fixed most of the things, but I am only a fair tinkerer...spring replacement, smoothing and polishing, just really minor stuff, so I tend to pass up guns that seem to need a lot of TLC. Prices are now in the stratosphere, but I guess I'll keep looking, and maybe one day... :)

Don't wait TOO long ... it seems in just seconds you get too old to enjoy things ...
My advice ... don't put off getting that revolver ...get it now and start enjoying it while you can !

Truer words were never spoken. It's easy to "kick the can down the road" waiting until you're too old to enjoy things. Its amazing how fast getting older creeps up on you.

Second revolver I ever bought was a Ruger Speed-Six with a 2 3/4" (?) barrel. Anyway, the "snub-nose" version. That would have been a GREAT carry gun, but you couldn't get a carry permit back then unless you knew someone, who knew someone. I kept it a while, shot it a lot with my "Lee-Loader reloads", but eventually some other bright shiny thing came along and I traded it off. I don't remember what, but I remember that Ruger. Good gun.

IMG_2614 (2).JPG I found this one when I walked into my LGS cash in hand to buy back my SP101 2.25" I sold them. Then I spotted this in the case and decided the SP101 could wait and walked out with the Security Six . It's got the best trigger of all my Rugers and dressed it up with an old Herretts grip. Range use the stock Sile rubber gets the nod.

Was in the LGS yesterday killing time, just shooting the bull with Mark. I almost left without looking in his Ruger display. Kinda glad I went back in and looked. $650 otd. Don’t know if I done good or not, but I’ve been looking for one in this configuration for years. View attachment 1152354
You did fine and it looks like it's in great condition. They're getting harder to find and the prices have risen in the past couple years. BTW, I paid $700 OTD for my Security Six 2 3/4". Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

I would swap our sp101 for pretty much ANY variety of security or service six. I sold a 6" security six after purchasing a tapered barrel gp100 as it fit my plans better at the time, but I'd love to find a 3" speed six. I also have one of the older blued 150 prefix 2.5" security sixes and it is sweeeeeeet. It looks great and is so crisp, tight, and better made than anything else they make. Having trouble finding good grips for it though.

I've tried and failed to appreciate the sp101.

I occasionally see 150 prefix grips on ebay. I felt the same way about my 2.25" SP101 until I sold it & and eventually replaced it with another SP. It carries so easily. My favorite 6 Series guns for CC are Speed Six 2 3/4" & 3". Round butt & fixed sights in stainless.

And the Security Six you bought is only slightly larger than the SP101. I've owned both at one time. My Speed Six was made way nicer! A lot of sharper edges as well on the SP101.

Mine. The wife has a Security Six with the same barrel length. Only real difference is that she has the adjustable sights. It's unreal what these are going for now!

I wouldn't say slightly. Probably 6 ounces and more heavily built for sure, Here's side by side Security vs SP/SP vs 3" Speed Six & 2 3/4" Speed Six IMG_2752 (2).JPG IMG_1589 (2).JPG

At the time that I had owned both, I felt the extra width and weight was worth the extra round. That was when I was younger and didn't feel the need for more rounds and less weight. My back thanks me for switching over to fantastic plastics now! Lol!
Btw, I note the name stonebuster, are you a stone mason?

I like my 3” GP100 a lot, more than the 4” Security Six I used to have. Shoot it better, too.

That's the way I am also. I've tried to shoot this but I can't shoot it as good as my GP100 my gunsmith fixed up for me.

security 6.jpg I bought this one for $330.00 out the door, about 5 or more years ago.
I just wondered into my LGS one day and looked down and there it was. The guy had one of the new model 27s sitting beside it and said don't you want to look at this one? I said no, let me see the SS. I took it with me.
I had read somewhere that the SS stainless was the only stainless gun on the market where 100% of the components was Stainless Steel.
I know it will still rust but I would think if would have a better chance of longevity as a survival gun than carbon steel guns.
I also have a GP100 that I had my gunsmith work over and the trigger in it is fantastic compared to the SS.
This SS pulls duty watching over my wife when I'm not here. (she works at home) It stays in the drawer in the China closet behind her where she sits to work. She had it out a few times when I wasn't there and someone would come to the door and acted like they didn't want to leave.
I'll have to look to see what these are going for now. I haven't been watching them.
I'm not looking to sell this one, it's my wife's now. Just curious.
