Retail Powder Prices (Ouch)

I’ve found Ashland to be the cheapest of the 3. Middleburg Heights the most expensive
I would have thought that they would all be the same in pricing. The more you know.

Speaking of know. The lady at the register told me that their stock always comes in on Friday at Rossford. That was on a Thursday. So from now on I will make my stops on Friday or Saturday.

Whaddya get…??
In our current situation, that seems pretty respectable………
A brick of Winchester LR and 8# of CFE223. The primers were $90 and the jug of powder was $259.

I have plenty of supplies for my present reloading needs. But with slowly building a 308W rifle, I didn't want to get caught with nothing to shoot in it.

On Tuesday I spent almost $380 on 1 brick of LRP and 8# of rifle powder. Not too long ago that could have gotten me a case of primers and nearly 12# of powder.

But what use to be a $200 trip to Costco is easily $300+ now.
You are not kidding about Costco cost. And they have Rock Bottom prices. but they make their money from Membership Fees.

Would you guys pay $100 a year to be a member of a Components Club?

The only thing I might need in the next couple years is another pound of AutoComp. I went through the first pound testing in.380, 9mm, .38Spl, .40, and.45 trying to figure out what my guns all liked or disliked about that powder. I found some really good loads and burned through a lot of it so I would like to have some in reserve. But I have enough to wait until it goes down in price. Or gets canceled. Whichever comes first.

Good price on the LR's. What store did you get them at? My wife is from NW Ohio and will be up visiting family soon, so might have her pick some up if it's in the Toledo area.

I definitely arrived late to the reloading game. Everything is so expensive. About the only thing I reload that is significantly cheaper than buying is .357. However, primer prices have come down quite bit. Got 5K for 12 cents a piece

Luckily BP prices have remained the same and cheaper than smokeless but you get less than 100 rounds per pound.

357/38 are good candidates for savings. 38 particularly can spread a pound of powder very far, with classic target charges under 3 grains. I'm trying my best to shoot the rifling out of my Blackhawk, but its 40 years old already, so I don't think I'll make it.

I stopped buying powder when it passed the $50 a pound. I just won't pay that much for a pound of powder. I stopped buying primers when it went over 10 cents per. Things like this has to have a reasonable maximum & I think it's gone way over on most things.

No way I’ll stop. I just won’t buy as much as often. My budget is set, I just won’t get as much as before. Oh, and more rimfire. Way more rimfire.
check out this .22 conversion for practicing 1911! good price too

Thanks. That's very close to where her mom lives, and I know the store. I'll put that on her shopping list. What brand are they?
You're welcome! Powders, mostly Hodgdon products. I don't recall seeing any Alliant. They had some Federal sp. Mostly CCI in sp and sr in 400, 450 and #41. There was also Remington BR. There may have been some sp Winchester along with the LR.
The week before they had some CCI LR

Might have been....Reno

When Federal and CCI are available at the same price point, I always default to the Federal
Fed over CCI?

for someone who never ready used Fed, better than CCi?

I recently started using Fiocci primers SPP, and they are good!

It depends on what you want to do. What are wanting to put a hole in and why?
Race guns typically have lighter springs and will sometimes not be as reliable with thicker primers. The hardness of the brass of the primer cups can also make a difference. How much difference depends on the gun.

The more leverage and spring strength goes up the stronger the primer needs to be to avoid a puncture so a gun modified for woods carry with a trip-n-fall resistant trigger might also need a harder primer cup. Maybe. It just depends.

Try a variety of components and note down what your guns like then build up a good stock for each. Maybe there is no difference, maybe there is. It depends.
