Retail Powder Prices (Ouch)

It depends on what you want to do. What are wanting to put a hole in and why?
Race guns typically have lighter springs and will sometimes not be as reliable with thicker primers. The hardness of the brass of the primer cups can also make a difference. How much difference depends on the gun.

The more leverage and spring strength goes up the stronger the primer needs to be to avoid a puncture so a gun modified for woods carry with a trip-n-fall resistant trigger might also need a harder primer cup. Maybe. It just depends.

Try a variety of components and note down what your guns like then build up a good stock for each. Maybe there is no difference, maybe there is. It depends.
I’m getting ready to try CCI BR-2 vs fed GM210 (or whatever they call their match stuff) also gonna try som srp brass with those as well(all308). I am thankful that I grabbed some benchmark at $40.99 a pound since I’m seeing it hit $62 pretty commonly.

Fed over CCI?

for someone who never ready used Fed, better than CCi?
At the same price point, every day and all day long...not just a little bit better either. I consider Federal SPP and LPP the top tier primers for my uses.

I still remember when folks thought of CCI as a 2nd tier primer, rating it behind Winchester and Remington. I've always preferred CCI over W-W and R-P, at first based on price and later on consistency...CCI is my utility primer choice. As primer shortages have risen and the price of CCI has matched that of other domestic primers, I've looked for viable substitutes. That turned out to be Ginex SPP.

I've replenished my utility SPP supply, replacing CCI, with Ginex primers. The Ginex nickeled primers are almost as sensitive as Federal, but do require consistent full seating in primer pockets

Ginex… another primer I can’t pronounce

It's Bosnian. The company has been manufacturing since the 50s
Now he’s going to try to pronounce “Bosnian.” I don’t want to know how that turns out.

One thing that really needs to be repeated is: seating depends on a limited number of variables. Control for those variables and any primer will seat, seal and ignite.

I had to learn that lesson in the 90’s when Tulammo rifle primers were the only thing available. After some minor change anxiety they turned out to be my new goto primer for stretched pocket brass. Especially for the Garand and Hakim.

Sometimes we just have to adapt.
