Two rifles came home today.

A bit of history on those two rifles. The 7x57 Mauser I bought in '75 and was my first CF rifle[late bloomer!] Had a little work done to it; cut the barrel down to 24", Bolt bent down , old sights removed, new Williams sights put on. It became a very good shooter with 139 or 154 gr Hornady spitzers. Later on, had it D/T for a scope and a Timney trigger put in.
Then it really became a shooter. Then in '84/'85 I came across th 30-06 at a lgs, it came home. Switched scope to a Leupold Vari-X 3-9x40 and had a Timney trigger installed also.
This has always been a great shooting rifle. Eventually, had a good friend who was excellent had wood working re-do both stocks to what you see now. Over time, I was slowly drifting away from big game hunting, so, about 1990, I gave both of these rifles to my buddy who still hunted a lot. When he moved to Idaho in 2013, he took those rifles with my blessing. Dave passed away last Dec 15 and asked his brother to get those rifles back to me. I finally got them this past Sunday. Many, many memories with those rifles and my friend of over 50+ years. Perhaps I'll take up deer hunting again with one of them. They will be going to the range soon tho, you can bet on that. Well, there it is.

Part II: When I had those rifles, I tagged two mule deer in Ca with the '06. Didn't tag any game with the 7x57.
When Dave had them, he got two deer in Ca., two deer in Idaho and a deer in Utah with the 7x57. With the '06, one Elk, one deer in Idaho.
Dave was an avid hunter to say the least.
