The Springfield has Arrived

I really like mine. 500 round count,no problems except one minor one. Get a 1.5mm hex key and some purple thread lock and make sure the rear sight set screw is tight and stays that way.

I’m another happy SA-35 owner. I bought spare magazines from Gun Mag Warehouse, all 750-odd shots have gone bang since I brought it home last January. :D

Let us know how it shoots for you.

Stay safe.

Good purchase....I predict you'll really like the SA-35. I have two BHP's plus the Springfield and in my use, the Springer is a better handgun: better trigger, better safety, good stocks, great sights, superior accuracy and absolute reliability to date. In fact, I cannot remember another pistol that was this reliable right out of the box, and that includes, Rugers, Sigs, Smiths and a half dozen Colt 1911's. The Springfield is 100% to date.

I'm way past 1000 rounds through mine: the bulk are handloads with both JHPs and lead alloy semi-wadcutters from Missouri Bullet Co. Mine prefers 124 gr weight bullets by a small margin, but both 115's and 124's will group ~2" at 25 yds from a rest position.

I wish Springfield had included another magazine with the gun, but alas, they didn't. Mine works 100% with any of my other BHP mags that hold 13 rounds. I've also bought two MecGar 15 rounders that equally reliable.

Good luck with yours, and let us all know how it works out for you. Best regards, Rod

I have only good things to say about mine. I like the modern plastic guns ok,but the handling, balance and accuracy of the Springfield are among the best of any pistol I've ever shot. I wouldn't hesitate to take it anywhere with me. Actually if I'm going to be in a vehicle for any length of time it will be in the shoulder holster as my primary pistol. I can have it ready for business much faster than I can a pistol in a hip holster, especially in a modern vehicle with the way we tend to sit in them. And when I walk up to the 50 yard target and see what it can do I just get a smile. It might need a wipe down at the end of the day but I don't mind.

I bought 3 15rd mec gar from Gun warehouse. It is a bummer they only give 1 with the gun, but they aren't that expensive to buy.
I love this gun, the look, the feel and the simplicity of it. shooting it tomorrow

357, Yep, I haven't had any difficulties with my Mec Gar mags either. They were a bit stiff initially when loading the 15th rounds but are more manageable now that they're broken in. I'll add that they've fed anything I've loaded without complaint.

Also, Ididn't mention the factory supplied stocks in my post, so here goes. They felt just a bit 'fatter' than those on my BHP's as supplied by Browning/FN. As a 1911 guy, I like a thinner cross section in the grips on my auto pistols; to that end, I replaced the Springfield stocks with a set of well colored Hogues. The gun just feels right now, and they do dress it up a bit too. I've posted this pic before so apologies to all for the repetition. Best Regards, Rod

Nice. Friday I went around to 4 different gun shops looking for some magazines for mine. Nobody has them. Gun mag warehouse one of the few places with them in stock. At least the M-G ones anyway.

GregCoteLLC has the 15 round MecGar Hi Power magazine for $24. This IS the mag that comes with the Springfield SA 35, just without the SA logo marking.

Good going. The SA-35 is a good gun. I'll be taking mine to the range this week for another flawless 200-round session.

Kind of ironic that the HiPo mags, bought during the Clinton ban, for $40@ were more expensive than brand new MedGars. A second mag in the box would have been nice, but replacements, good replacements, are reasonable enough. Use a MagLula to fill them.

I know what you mean; those Browning plastic factory grips were terrible. First thing I did was take them off and put a full set of Pachmayrs on the gun.

They feel very comfortable and don't ever get sticky like some rubber grips do. A few years back my daughter in law got me a set of Hogue grips for

Christmas and as you say: "they do dress it up a bit too"

Bannock....I'd forgotten those Pachmayrs from years ago. An old friend had them on a BHP "Practical", the two-tone one and that was one of the most accurate and well stocked BHP's I'd ever shot. He loaned it out to me for several months while I worked up some loads for it...must of gone through 400 rounds "testing"....I finally returned it and he remarked that since we were "shooters of a certain age", he'd put it in his will for one of my sons.

Your comments on the 'feel' are right on and especially the note that the Pachy's don't feel sticky nor ride up your shirt tail when carried in that most useful of all carry methods: OWB. Very useful stocks for a duty gun, I'd opine.

Apologies to some of the younger shooters here while we reminisce on this 90 year old war horse, but some of use who've carried the BHP in peace and war will always remark on the 'feel' in the hand...it's there in this new offering from Springfield and with far better sights, that contribute in no small measure to its on target performance.

Best regards, Rod

Here's my 'Practical' 9mm with a darker set of Hogues...but note the sights vs those on the SA-35 below...part of the reason the new gun perks so well.

Due respect, bannockburn, but I'm glad your daughter in law helped your HiPo shed the Pachyderms. ;)
Personally, can't feel much difference between the Belgian gun and the Springer; think there are Hogues on that.
They both feel great to me.

Oh I agree that while the Hogue grips do improve the rather utilitarian appearance of the Mark II, I still like the overall feel of the Pachmayrs on the gun.

I have yet to meet anyone who didn't like the Hi-Power, with whatever grips were on it!

I have a soft spot for Hi-Powers. The two on the left are SA-35s. Top right is a 1973 vintage gun that was re-worked by a gunsmith in Atlanta years ago to run hollow points. Also did a trigger job…4.5 pound trigger that breaks like glass. The one on the bottom right is a 1983 vintage that is completely stock. Won’t shoot a hollow point with OEM magazines but will run hollow points all day long with Mec-Gar magazine.
