Glock 38 and 39 45G.A.P.

While I have been slow to accept the .45Gap, the range of weapons now available speaks well for its continued success.

I am weakening now that there are 3 different sized Glocks..S, M, L available

S/A even came out with some 1911's

Well, one must discount the number of Glock models chambered in GAP as that is their baby and to justify its existence. Other models offered by other manufactures should be the gauge of what is and is not successful.

As ammo becomes more available and platforms become more available...

Calibers become more popular...Glock didn't come out with the 38 and 39 because they were not selling 37's

And S/A has NO interest in propping up Glock sales

I have a shooting buddy that has changed his tune now that the mid-size & compact GAP guns are soon to be available. Me, I still don't get it, but maybe if & when my buddy has one to actually shoot, he might win me over

I remember last year when this caliber was announced and we were all promising to hate it so it would fail.

Now after looking at the specs and ballistic comparison to the .45 ACP, plus the advent of the glock model 38 i am changing my mind on the 45GAP.

Glock with three guns, Springfield with three (two XD and a micro 1911).

Five companies loading ammo for it...

Winchester with six loads
Cor-Bon with four
Speer
Federal
Remington with two loads (230 gr. FMJ and JHP).

Looks interesting.

I would not even bother looking for at least six months!!
The Shot Show is where makers show off their prototypes!! The G36 went two years, I believe, between SS and production!!

I wasn't initially interested in the caliber, for the sake of the caliber ...

Then, I was given some advance pictures and info about the pending release of the G38 & G39 ...

I like the G26/27 size platform, even if the capacity is 'only' 6+1, although an 8+1 G19/23 size platform has some small amount of appeal ...

Then, a couple of the ammunition companies figured out a way to offer 230gr bullets in the shorter case. I prefer 230gr weight bullets more than 185gr & 200gr bullets when it comes to .45 loads.

Now, after the beta-testing has been done, in the hands of owners/users for a while, I can see myself getting a G39 ... because of the size of the platform and the availability of the 230gr bullet weight (which is apparently offering identical ballistics to 230gr bullets fired from .45 ACP cases at standard pressures).

The platform size and bullet weight would attract my interest ... not the 'specialty' of the caliber itself.

I mostly require reliable functioning & accuracy in the weapon platform which meets my size and caliber requirements, and in some instances the design & operation of the platform itself may make or break my decision to use it.

The G39, and perhaps the G38, is tentatively interesting ... and I was one of those folks who initially thought it was a waste of time in the full size platform.

I agree that the G38/39 are interesting: but Taurus' PT145 (10+1) and PT745 (7+1) are the same size (virtually to the millimeter) and hold .45 ACP. I've had a PT145 for some time now, and am very satisfied with its reliability and accuracy. Worth considering for those looking for a baby .45 . . .

Other models offered by other manufactures should be the gauge of what is and is not successful.

You're right -- if other gun manufacturers don't pick up a new cartridge, it usually dies.

Have any of the other firearm makers decided to pick up the .45 GAP cartridge?

Personally, I won't consider the cartridge until H&K and Sig come out with a pistol for it.

How does the G39 shoot compared to, say, the G36???

I wouldn't worry about .45 GAP being a flash in the pan round. Tons of people talk it down either out of ignorance or because any .45 without ACP behind it is unacceptable to them.

The gun world is becoming so far behind the times technology wise and it's because of mindframes like this. The end user has become so stubborn that anything outside the box is totally unacceptable.

Ignore the myths about the .45 GAP round when it comes to power and availability and price. Do your own searching, educate yourself and you'll find that not only are they myths but this round has potential to be a reloaders dream. The thick case webbing will stand up to numerous reloads.

Each and every new round that has come out since the dawn of time has had it's naysayers. I'm sure everyone looked at the creator of the .45 ACP like he was an idiot.

I love my XD .45GAP. After the last trip to the range and watching it outshoot two Kimber Deserts it's a keeper.

Para-Ordnance has committed to a small frame .45 GAP. Should be interesting. Springfield said they were going to produce a 1911 in GAP and never followed through beyond a few prototypes at the Shot Show.

Don't hold your breath, I don't think it will happen. If they haven't announced anything by now, nothing is in the works. Maybe if GAP takes off, but I don't see H&K and Sig getting involved.

How long did it take for the .40 S&W and the .357 SIG to gain popularity? The GAP should definitely be given a chance to see if it can grow like those cartridges have grown. Look at those two cartridges, they are amongst some of the favorites in the LE community and personal defense sector today.

I'm already on the .40 S&W cartridge and I think the .357 SIG is next for me.
