Hello All,

I'm the new owner of a SA Range Officer Compact .45 ACP. My other
1911s are Full Size 5" and a Colt Commander w/Steel frames. The
RO Compact is my first 'Springer' as well as first 1911 variant with an
aluminum alloy frame. It does have a fully supported and ramped barrrel

Question is is it ok to shoot +P in it. Not all the time but perhaps
10 rds a month at most. I've been reading the manual but haven't
found a ref. to +P.

Not that I think +P is needed - there are several 230 gr. JHP
HD/SD standard pressure rounds in the 890 FPS / 5" Bbl. like
Gold DOt, XTPs, Federal HST or Hydra Shok I do have a box
or two of Hornady 'Custom' 230 gr. XTPs @ 950 FPS shooting it
with some of the other stuff, just more recoil & muzzle flash/blast.
Whereas a possible option for the shorter BBL. Commander and
RO COmpact the +P Barnes 185 TAC XP HP @ 1,000 FPS / 5" Bbl.
but it's the softest recoil, and nlittle if any muzzle flash.

So, +P in an alloy frame?>

Looking the manual that came with my 45ACP 5" Range Officer I see the following on page 39:

Note: 1911-A1 Ultra-Compact Pistols are designed
to use standard pressure ball ammo and self defense
loads. +P ammunition is not recommended in pistols
shorter than 5 inches.

I had the same question regarding my EMP. A quick call to Springfield's customer service answered my question (it could handle +P, but they don't recommend a steady diet of it). I read the same paragraph regarding Ultra Compacts and would confirm whether the Range Officer Compact is the same as an Ultra Compact. I may be wrong, but I believe they are 2 different guns.

Most modern well made .45 acp pistols will handle +P loads just fine but why. It will only accelerate wear in all of them.
