A few weeks ago I bought, (OK Stole) (For 200 bucks) a M1908 Colt Hammerless .380 ACP , in 95% condition. I am looking for a a holster to fit it. Ordered her a set of Ajax Ivory polymer grips for it and had her initials engraved into them. But the holster is a problem. Right now we can't afford a full custom setup but are looking for something that will be safe and comfortable for range work. She currently use either a Galco purse for it and for range work a AMS nylon that fits the closest of all. Any of you fine folks got any ideas?

Please - -

Spend the time and money necessary to get a decent leather holster for that nice little pistol. Yep, for a 90%+ 1908, $200 is pure theft. :p Count your blessings, and treat the old gun well. You've already laid out a fair amount of cash on the ivory polymet stocks, so give it equal respect in the holster area.

Don't use a one-size-fits-none nylon holster. The soft, floopy ones are just an insult to a nice, classic piece such as that Colt Pocket Auto. The firmer nylon items are almost like using sandpaper on the finish. And please, don't even TRY fitting it into a molded plastic or Kydex holster. It's even worse than the nylon

I suggest that, pending being able to have a custom holster built, you take the little pistol to the various gun shows in your area. Make a slow browse around the tables. There are always a few guys who specialize in used leather gear. Some go to the pawn shops and gun shops that accept trade-ins and buy up the old hosters for a few cents on the dollar. I've found some very nice items for five or ten bucks.

Put out the word at your local pawnbrokers and gun shops, too. You might get lucky that way.

Some other suggestions - -

I have at least one holster made for a Walther PP which fits my 1908 well. You just need to try - - Most PP leather is fitted too closely at the front of the slide to accept the broader snout of the 1908.

Look for a holster made for the Kahr 9mm. It'll probably be a bit wide in the slide area, though.

Ask your gunshops if they have a holster designated for the recent model Colt .380 Government Model. I've never tried this for fit with a 1908, but the sizes seem compatable.

Check out the Bianchi #105 belt slide - - It'll at least keep the pistol at her side while at the range, and it is fully lined, to protect the finish.

Congratulations to your wife on her nice pistol. Best of luck on your holster quest.

Here is a picture of my 1908 380 in the holster Tenntucker llinked. It fits OK. Note that I used this holster for my Colt Government 380 and had a flap of leather added to keep the gun away from my body. Other than that it is the exact same holster that Tenntucker referenced.

Here is the long awaited pick of my wifes Colt Hammerless. Looks like a local saddle maker is able to make what she wants. It's a plus since he can fit it to the gun and here at the same time. There is a small anmount of holster wear at the muzzle and the under side of the slide. ALso the blue has that look of being old. Other than that it functions and looks like new. According to the serial # this little toy was built in 1929

That looks like a dandy. Still you ought to be ashamed for only paying $200.00 for it. As a favor (because that's the kind of guy I am) I will ease your guilty conscience and give you $250.00 for it. I am sure you will feel so much better!

Did you just call your wife heavy?!?!

I inherited a .380 Hammerless last fall. Been hemming and hawing about refinishing it. It was stored terribly and is scratched up badly.

Worst part is getting magzines that work. I have the original one that works fine and bought two replacements from Gun Parts. One is iffy. One I was able to modify and now works 100%.

Check with Rafter S Gunleather. If they make a holster for that gun, plain cowhide will be $45. Exotics start at $70 and go up from there. I have two of their sharkskin holsters (GP100 and K9) and a matching belt.

Ah yes the old 1903/1908 Colt hammerless guns. I love them. I have a .32 built in 1918. Got it for 300 last year.
I would like to find a correct military style or airline for the period for it.

My .32 was built in 1921. Gave $300 for it and a box of shells. Found it in-state in the trader. An 80+ year old man had it and a Marlin 39A for sale. Went to buy the Marlin and he showed me the Colt. Took the rifle home, got on the computer, and liked the history of the .32. Went back the next day and bought the Colt. Shot it, loved it! Just wish I could find extra mags for it. It's in too good of shape to holster!

Welcome Aboardâ„¢ Cooper

If you're looking for 1903 Colt magazines my first choice would be Joe Lowe down in Irving Texas.
(972) 986-8158
He is really good to deal with and I'll wager he'll have some originals in stock

My second chpice would be Tom Forrest.
(619) 561-5800.
He'll most likely have some originals as well as good replacements.

Left a message with Joe Lowe. Spoke with Tom Forrest. All he had were Triple K aftermarkets and I've had spotty luck at best with those. Hopefully, I'll get a call back from Joe Lowe with good news.

Thanks for the tip.
