I just bought a Springfield 1911A1 chambered for 9mm. I am looking for magazines for it. I can find a few under the reference to Colt. What other names might a 1911 magazine be under? I cannot find any under Springfield. Shouldn't the Colt mags fit the SA just fine?

What other caliber mags will work with 9mm? All I can find are references to .38 Super.

I am also looking for a holster for it-probably from Safariland. I see lots of holsters that say "Colt Governement" and "Colt Commander," are these 1911's?

Holster

Any holster for a Colt Government Model or a 5" 1911 will work great. Your gun is of the same dimensions.

There are plenty of good makers to choose from. All make holsters for the Government Model or "1911."

A Government Model 1911 has a 5" barrel and a full-sized frame. An Officer's magazine will not fit. Get a holster for the Government model. Any 1911A1 model should be dimensionally the same as the Government model.
The Commander is (strictly speaking) a 4-1/4" barrel and a full frame. Some, such as the Kimber and Springfield, have 4" barrels. The grips and magazines are interchangable with that of the Government model.
Then there are the smaller models, which shouldn't concern you.
For magazines, I have heard that magazines for the .38 Super work fine.
Try a Chip McCormick or Wilson Combat magazine. They seem to be the best out there.

I've seen Mecgar mags in 9mm for the 1911, but they are few & far between. Good luck on your search.

I can find the Mec-Gar's for $13 to $20.

I had found some hi-caps (15 maybe?) a few months ago, and now I cannot remember where!
