Guys,

Ok so what is the final word on RIA's inexpensive .45 autos?

Tried to search the Net for them...but came up empty...not much of a computer guy...

Is this a good handgun or just cheap crap?

Shane

I think they're just good cheap handguns. They aren't neato-completo-yippie fancy raceguns by any stretch, but they aren't Lorcin .25s, either. For a decent basic shootin' iron, I'd get one.

They're good for what you get, nothing less, nothing more. If you want a non sense plinker in the venerable 45ACP and can't afford a SA GI, they definitely fit the bill.

I have a Compact RIA that, hopefully, will be Duracoated by the end of the weekend. I hope to put some pics up soon!

For under $350, it is an excellent bargin 1911A1. I wouldn't spend more than $350 on one, though. I really like my RIA. Missashot likes hers, too. If you can't, or don't want to spend a lot of money, but want a 1911, I'd definitely recommend one. Mine's been 100% reliable and shockingly accurate. Right now, I tend to shoot it more than any of my four Colts or even my Norinco 1911A1. If you do a search on RIA's in this section of THR, you should find a lot of info and pictures of RIA 1911s.

Edit - Figure I'd post a picture of mine with Wilson Combat beavertail grip safety, Wilson Combat hammer, and Hogue wrap-around grips:

Reviews on the forums are a mixed bag. Some work 100%, others are POS. I've looked a three in the past two days: two full size; and one compact with all the goodies. $295-299 OTD.

BUT, for want of a better term, they don't "feel" right to me for some reason. I've owned/shot all manner of 1911's and I really wanted to like the RIA. I can't put my finger on it, but they feel different than the Kimbers, SA's, Colt's, etc in the case right beside them.

Maybe quality is the word I'm looking for?
