10mm

10mm's will never be popular enough to be a fad. 1911's are a fad tattoos are a fad harley's are a fad. If you want a 10mm of course you should get one!! Might I suggest an EAA witness.

1911's a fad? WOW! That seem's to be a very long running fad if you ask me!:neener: :neener: :neener:

I believe 10mm handguns are catching on in popularity once again. I think the 10mm is the most versital handgun round as of yet. You've got the power of a .357 in a high-capacity handgun.

I would suggest a Glock 20. The only thing keeping me from purchasing one right now is that I want my step into the automatic pistol genre to be with a CZ75.

10mm has evolved past the "fad" category and entered the "classic" category!

The cartridge has a lot to offer but can be a handful in a pistol. Practice, as always, makes perfect.

The folks who reload really like this one because you can load the cartridge to do just about anything. It's one of the few pistol-caliber cartridges that could be considered to do almost everything well. Works great in a pistol, works great in a rifle, what's not to like?

I am quite fond of my G29. It is surprising how easily controllable it is with full-force defensive ammunition like Silvertip 175-gr and Gold Dot 180-gr loads.

It has less recoil than my 4" 686 with 125-gr Remington R357M1 ammo, yet it's a 10 +1 sidearm in a very small package.

I'd sworn off Glocks, even though I've shot a bunch of them in several calibers and enjoyed them. But the 10mm G29 is such a good balance of power, size and controlability that I broke down and got one.

Actually, my wife got it for me! :)

That was kind of the poster's point. Introduced in 1983, the 10mm has been around over 20 years now, bit long to be referred to as a fad.

Power level is closer to a .41 mag revolver and the G29 is probably even a better gun than the G20. They are a dream to shoot. What I have found is that the people that shoot 10 regularly are "rabid" about it. The claims of excessive recoil are way exaggerated.

If you reload, you should absolutely get one. If you do not reload...
If you do not reload, just order online from Double Tap ammo. McNett produces very good quality ammo!

Double Tap is worth the price. The 200gr at abt 1250 is fantastic from my G29. I have a local reloader who also shoots/loves 10mm and he has made some 135gr nosler hp at 1550fps that are, you should excuse the expression, a blast to shoot.

The mod who moved this from the general handgun forum must not have realized it's available in a few revolvers. :neener:

I love my GLOCK 29!

DT's 135gr Noslers leave the muzzle at 1600fps out of a G20. Jeez...I'm beginning to sound like a DT shill. Pssst... McNett...how about sending me a free box or two for all these promotion of your 10mm? Any chance of that?

You are right, sir! Here's one fine example, the S&W 610:

Nope. That's just another myth that refuses to die. When comparing the hottest factory loads (e.g., Double Tap and Buffalo Bore), the 10mm is roughly equal to the .357 Magnum (with the .357 Magnum having a slight, but insignificant advantage). The .41 Magnum energy levels easily exceed 10mm levels (to the tune of ~50%). The 10mm is the autoloader equivalent of the .357 Magnum--nothing more, nothing less.

Regardless of whether it's a fad or not

they are a freaking hoot. Yes, absolutely buy one. The Witness is generally a good pistol. They are fun. 180gr bullets and 800x with a CCI 350. Good fun.

Taurus is also making or is going to make a line of 10mm revolvers. They were unveiled at the '06 SHOT show.

The S&W looks sweet but they're lots of green compared to a GLOCK! :)

Which frame is it built on BTW?

I want a G29, can't resist much longer

I gave in three weeks ago....

First Glock I've ever owned, although I have shot a bunch of them and shot them well. It took the G29 to push me over the edge. Bought a new one and have no regrets.

I've shot hundreds of rounds thru it so far. Nice gentle push for a fairly hot cartridge.

Nope. Close, but no...though we have had this debate before & re-hashing it again won't likely be productive. It is 100% true that a hot-loaded 10mm is not near a hot .41 mag, but it can & does meet the performance of some of the weak/mid factory .41 mag offerings. The 10mm does in fact exceed the .357 magnum buy a respectable margin when both are loaded to their full potential. I have hunted with a .357 for about 8 years and I switched to 10mm about 5 years ago as my primary handgun caliber for a few reasons (though, I still use my 686 from time to time) - one being a slight edge in power of the .357 with about the same recoil. Both are good hunting calibers if you know your limits. Most of the people I have seen claim that these 2 are on par do not keep things like barrel length (breech to muzzle) into consideration...though, I don't believe that was the source of our earlier debate. In my experience, out of 6" revolvers (686 and 610, respectively; or a G20 with a 6" barrel), a hot-loaded 200gr 10mm bullet will provide about 100 ft. lbs more than a 180 gr. .357 mag. Do the math...then, watch the chrono and re-do the math. It's not that hard to see this is true...though both had planty of sectional density at these weights and with good bullet choice (XTP, Partitians, etc.), I doubt the deer will ever know the difference.

JC2, in what way do you see that the .357 magnum has a "slight, but insignificant advantage" has over the 10mm?

***Check/disregard that last part....I just edited this to add link to the last time I recall this being discussed: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=169582&highlight=10mm+wfn...looks like we hashed this out already, so I'll let my comments made then stand for now.
