I really want a new production .44 magnum lever gun with a carbine length (16-18 inch), unported barrel on it. I know that Winchester made them and I currently have one of those. I would like a Marlin, but they do not appear to make such an animal. If one is in current production, please let me know. Thanks.

Ruger makes one. I believe it is a Deerfield carbine, but I'm not sure. It has a 4 round rotary mag and looks like other Ruger carbines.

Marlin made some but they were in limited production run in laminate stock and stainless barrel. I want one too but I ended up just going with a 20" barrel marlin.

I believe that Browning stil makes the Model 92. It's a copy of the Winchester 92, originally designed by Browning. capt david

Short barrel Marlin 44 mag...

dmckean44 is right, Marlin made a limited run of stainless steel 1894's in 357 mag, 41 mag 45 colt and 44 mag. They have a laminated grey and black laminated stock straight style stock with a capped forend with swivel studs installed as mentioned and firesight type fiber optic inserted sights. I have one in each in 357 and 44 and I have been having a ball at the range with the 357. Great fun to shoot and a very handy size and light in weight. I mounted a 4x burris mini on it and it shoots well at 100 yards with little noticible recoil. You can still find them occasionally at gunbroker and the like but they carry about a $150 to $200 premium over a standard model 1894 ss. Love them shorty lever guns...

I have the Ruger 44 mag lever action. No external hammer so it doesn't have the classic western look. Mine is very accurate, easy to carry, but kicks the snot out of you. It is worse than my Remington 7600 30-06.

puma

puma, a think a brazilian company makes one. extremely compact and I liked it a lot when I saw it. cannot comment on the quality though. I was the ultimate brush gun I remember thinking.

In that case just pick up a 20" 1894 when they go on sale for $300 and send it to a good gunsmith and have 4 inches taken off the barrel and the magazine tube.

Marlin made plain old 16" '94's in .44 mag.

Here's mine:

Check out one of the "Trapper" versions of the Winchester '92 clone made by Taurus/Rossi. 16' bbl, less than 36" OA, about 5.5 lbs. I have one in .357 and like it a lot.

Agree with earlier posters recommending the Rossi leverguns. They're imported by Legacy Sports as the Puma and by EMF as the Hartford model.

I've got two in Rossi rifles in .357 mag I'm very fond of.

The Rossi is a nicely made clone of the Winchester 92. Strong enough to handle the .44 Rem mag, or the .454 Casull if YOU'RE up to it!

Take a look over at leverguns.com for more info.

I like my Rossi 92 in .357 as well. Nice handy little rifle. I don't think I ever measured the barrel.

Who puts .44 Mag lever guns on sale? Is that Wal-Mart?
