Yeah, I price every thing in gun terms...like Christmas is going to cost me about 2 maybe 3 1911's to get something for everyone on my list
Merry Christmas ;)

Was all set to go buy another gun this weekend (either a CZ or a Glock) and a front wheel bearing on my Jeep went out <sigh>. Of course it's one of those things where you can't just replace one hub assembly, gotta do 'em both and even though I'm doing the labor myself the assemblies are still pricy so I guess I'll only get to window shop for a little longer.
Why do you have to do them both? What kind of Jeep do you have, anyway?

Mine's a 1988 Cherokee. The left front hub has been replaced twice. The one on the right side is still the original, and I just turned over 260,000 on the odometer.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Hit a deer on Thanksgiving. The insurance company totaled my car today so I'm shopping but not for guns. Adding a car payment where I had none subtracts the equivalent of several potential guns a year from my budget.
Stupid deer.:banghead:

If misery loves company come on in. Where do I start? How about the temporary crowns in the lower right side of my jaw. It feels like something is caught in my teeth and it's driving me nuts. Both trucks need brakes, six dogs expect to be fed twice a day, the wifes computer failed a week or so back and mine could go any day. Christmas around the corner, wifey's birthday Jan 5th, our Anniversary on Feb 8th and that stupid Hallmark holiday right behind it. My business is in a perpetual slump, I project a shortfall on just paying the bills which means all the special occasions hit a credit card, >deep breath< and I want a NEW KIMBER TEN MM. WHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!
}:)>

Does this count, I shot the front sight off my Colt Commander on Sunday while I was burning up another five hundred rounds and I just bought a car from a customer that decided not to fix it. Sure it needs some love but fortunately I am in the car lovin' business. My tool box has been eating my gun budget lately had to update my scantool and buy a new labscope not to mention the three new apprentice techs that I have to train to put things away. OP you shouldn't need to replace both hubs on that Jeep we do just the failed side all the time.

I feel your pain CrashM.....

Master certified ASE for 12 years, with both a gun and tool addiction. Why do they have to always come up with something new to do the same old stuff we've been doing for years?

Then again, why do I keep buying them?

oh...thats right....because they are shiney:D

Habit?

Dude I don't think I have spent less than 5K a year with Snappy since I started 20 years ago. Oh wait I managed 2 years with the occassional replacement of something lost but that was a long while ago.

Re: The jeep spindle bearing, if it's the same bearing & hub assembly on my 4x4 Cherokee you can get them for less than $75 each delivered by searching the internet. Last time I paid $67 to my door. And you only need to replace the bad one, left or right, takes about one hour total to do it including getting out and putting away the tools & jack. Advance Auto sells them for $70 or so at the store.

Re: The CV joint, NAPA sells remanufactured complete CV driveshaft assemblies including both joints, for $89 with exchange of the old shaft. I don't bother to rebuild them myself anymore because the new joint & boot costs more than that usually.

So at worst it's only a dent in the new gun money for either of you.

1997 Cherokee. The passenger's side has been "whispering" for a while now and the drivers side really started singing so I figure as long as I'm gonna jack it up might as well do both and be done with it. Happily I found a really good price on the parts so that eases the burden some.

On the other hand, with the replacement of these bearings that means none of my wheel bearings are over 20k old (re-did the rear axle after an offroad...umm mishap <grin>). So as long as I can stay away from rock hopping I should be good for a long time yet.

meinbruder,
You have my sympathy with the crowns bit. I had that happen 2 years ago RIGHT BEFORE THANKSGIVING. Kept me from overeating but also kept me from sleeping well. Don't put the holidays on a credit card, you'll regret it!

In order to encourage you

and your Jeep problems I will suggest two things. First: If you look around you can always find someone less fortunate than you. If you have a roof over your head, food, clothing, utilities paid, and a job you are already way, way ahead of lots of other people. If you have the money to pay for that repair you are way, way ahead of others. Hope that helps.
Now, if you do not like to hear that philosophy than I will share my experience like a lot of other members did, only mine is in reverse. I have netted about $1750 in the last two months at the casino. Yes, I do not advise others gamblin g but I am going to end the year way, way ahead. My point for you??? It is that if you have misfortune now, chances are in the next few months or year you will good fortune to match the misfortune or outdo it. Just wait and have faith that better days will come. They almost always do for most of us. Have a nice holiday season, whatever holiday you celebrate. :)

moewadle,
Yeah I know that overall I'm in good shape and don't have much to complain about (especially compared to people who are, say, living in a WAR ZONE or something like that).

However, every once in a while that "nibbled to death by guppies" feeling gets a little overwhelming and I just want to stand up and say "Damnit, That Sucks". Very cathartic and then I keep soldiering on :D

My students loans informed me today that my payment was past due, turns out they moved and had the post office forwarding their mail for a year... Well that stopped last month so now they don't have my payment.

You'd think that someone that wants money from me would inform me a YEAR AGO that they moved... :banghead:

Glad I paid off the remaining 1400... this morning.. they can get bent as far as I'm concerned. :cuss:

Glad I don't have to deal with them anymore :barf:

:(
Man, I feel your pain.
I could buy all the guns I wanted right now by abusing the credit card. But the disciplined side of me won't allow it. I hate being in debt.
And something ALWAYS comes up. It's almost like clockwork.
Why can't women understand? I gotta have my guns!

We have paid off all but our mortgage and our car. What we owe is now only 60% of what we could get if we sold the house. The car is nothing, paid off in under 4 years if we stick with the loan schedule, we'll be decimating that next.

Plus the realtors keep pushing us to sell our place in Canada for 1/4 mil...

So having some student loan company jerk us around is not impressive.

Heres my rant. Planned to order a case of M2 from CMP. Girlfriend's (soon to be fiancie) father passed away a week ago yeasterday, had to put a rental car on the credit card, and we headed home. National Car really stuck it to me, $455 for a 4 day rental of a compact car.

I had plans for a custom 1911 and finding a nice S&W model 19.

Well, went down to the local gun store today and found a very clean S&W model 14 for a small chunk of change.

Figures - right after I get the pink slip.....:banghead:

Focus, focus,,,, FOCUS! You are getting out of NJ, are you not?

If I was in NYC, NJ, or some other place like that, I'd bankrupt myself to get the HECK OUT! Been there, got NO urge to go back.

And I have some experience with starting over, so I do know the downside. I am living my "second" more pleasing Life. And jobs are NOT the main point in my life. I look at the overall view. Everything can be gone. I was down to a bag of clothes, a bicycle and a worn out Yamaha. Hope it goes well with you, or even better.

Sometimes, it is better than the lottery, I would not change a thing, I got what I want, the hardware and more importantly, the knowledge of what I can really do.

Jerry

I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum. Took 3 years and 2 jobs, but now I don't owe anyone anything(financially). This Christmas I've bought everyone gifts for the holiday and I'm still money ahead, but I still have some gun shopping to do....

For those of you suffering the slings and arrows of life, give this a try.

I got the same problem with my truck costing me guns, I got backed into by a 10 yard dumptruck a couple months ago. With PLPD I took a hit and had to buy a new used truck to be able to work. 3 AR's and a 1911 I could have had:(

just to let people in Florida know, there is a all ready approved 25% windstorm insurance increase taking effect in January with another 55% increase proposed for around May,so I would consider this before raiding the gunshows.Last January I already got popped a extra $100 a month for insurance..:cuss:
And business will be hit harder, and you renters will get popped by your landlord for his increase probably.
