Well I just got inside after giving the police my report of what happened.

I was watching TV at about 3:00am and heard a loud bang and then a car alarm go off. I thought someone hit a car and there was an accident outside so I grab my cell phone and go outside and see a few people walking towards a Jeep Grand Cherokee with it's rear window shattered every where on the floor and I hear people saying someone throw a brick in that window. Then I hear 2-3 more loud bangs in the distance, and then I looked at the car and saw on the front window a hole which looked like a bullet hit (I guessed about .22 sized bullet). So I told the crowd of kids (I live in an apartment complex full of college kids since we are near UF) they may not want to stand in the middle of the street and I told another kid to call 911. He did and the dispatcher told him they got other reports of a maroon 4runner shooting at cars in the area and the police are looking for the person. Thankfully the car wasnt in the small complex anymore.

One K9 Unit arrives 5 minutes after the call was made and asked me if everyone was alright and I said ya and he's like ok and speeds off (I figured they were looking for the punks and I was right). About 30-45 mins after that he comes back with his Sgt. and I ask them if they caught the guy and they said ya. The Sgt. says that it was a 19-20 yo maintanence man from a close by apt complex that was doing this for fun with his friends. His "friends" told the cops everything and said he did it. Initially the police only found a revolver with 2 spent rounds and a few more in the cylinder. So I ask the sgt. what kind of gun he used and he goes a .357! one of those will take you out in one shot and he's lucky no one was hit cuz they'd be dead instantly :scrutiny: . Then I ask him was it .357 sig or magnum and he gives me a dirty look and goes MAGNUM DUH, what other kind of .357 (I didnt know it was a revolver at the time). Then he tells me it is a revolver and those have cylinders and how that gun will kill anyone this and that. :banghead: So i'm like ok, but I still thought the hole was really small for a .356 sized bullet to make unless the bullet fragmented and made that hole. Then the Sgt. asks the K9 officer, those big long case ones are .357s right? And the officer is like ya i think. Then the Sgt. couldnt find the bullet around or in the car and goes HE MUSTA BEEN USING ONE OF DEM HYDRASHOCK BULLETS! I THINK I SEE A FRAGMENT BECAUSE IF THAT WAS BALL IT WOULDA PUNCHED THROUGH EVERYTHING!

Then about 5 mins later he gets a call on his radio that they found a Mini-14 in his car and he shot the car in my complex with it (he shot other cars in the area with the revolver apparently). Then the sgt. comes up to me and the crowd and goes, he was using a mini-14 TWO TWENTY THREE! THATS A DEADLY RIFLE IN THE CALIBER THE MILITARY USES! That thing would punch through anything. One person in the crowd and goes what's a mini-14, and unfortunately the officer responds before I do. :barf: Sgt.: ITS ONE OF THOSE DEADLY ASSAULT RIFLES AND HE COULD KILL WHO KNOWS HOW MANY PEOPLE WITH THAT ONE. Then the manager from my complex asks who makes that gun (he has a Remington 870, thankfully I dont have an anti gun manager and he doesnt care if we do even though it states in the lease we cant have any guns  ) and the sgt. goes uh uhhhhhhh and I respond Ruger and the cop goes YA, RUGER THAT'S IT! Then the cop starts telling everyone how the bullet is easily miles away since it was a rifle round. Thankfully that is ALL he said about "EVIL" guns.

The perps were caught at least and will be charged with 2 counts of carrying a concealed weapon and discharging a firearm from a moving vehicle within 1000feet of people (2nd degree felony).

This was quite a coincidence this happened tonite since I just had a fight with my girlfriend about guns and how I dont need them and I think I'm in an action movie and how everyone is out to get me :cuss: :fire:

Guess this gives me another reason to have a gun because my little "perfect area" isn't so perfect...

"rant on"
Sorry to hear that you have A$$ CLOWNS for cops in your area.

AGGH!! I don't mean all cops are a$$ clowns (my FFL dealer is one heck of a crime stopper). I've just seen too many that are better at writing reports than fighting crime, enforcing the law, protect and serving, or whatever the motto may be.
"rant off"

Well, I give them credit that at least they caught the punks quick and besides their firearm knowledge I was relatively satisfied with their job.

Also, it sickens me how people percieved the rifle as an EVIL ASSAULT WEAPON and one person asked the cop if it's like a sniper rifle and he just nodded his head

At least my manager and a few other people there had sense to realize guns are not so evil (we were talking after because a few of them were hunters but no one had guns with them because the apt says they dont allow firearms, but the manager said he doesnt care esp. after this).

matt7184, you make any effort to publicly correct / inform the officer? any attempt to counter the grossly negative propaganda he was spouting? any attempt to educate the crowd he was MISinforming?

Generally, cops know nothing about firearms. Don't want to know anything about firearms and only want the public to think they know about them. For the last 20 years or so, most new cops have no prior experience with firearms of any kind before becoming a cop.
From your decription, that flatfoot Sgt. was scared silly. Not that I blame him. He was saying the first thing that came into his head. There's no point in trying to tell him he's wrong as he's not listening anyway. And he'd lose face in front of your neighbours. That could have come back to haunt you.
And what's wrong with living in an action movie. Been starring in one for eons myself. Ok, it started out as a western, transmorphed into a war movie and it's just an action movie now. Bugdet got cut.

The Mini 14 is an evil rifle, you should see what mine has done to all the squirells it comes across.

rayra, nope didnt want to cause him trouble during the investigation, plus I talked with the crowd after about guns (most were pro-gun hunters). One hunter even said the guy is moron lol, because before the cops arrived I noticed the hole in the front windshield (second window bullet punched through) was quite small and around .22 sized and the cop was convinced it was a 357MAGNUM!!! lol Then they found the mini-14 and he's like oh ya it was a .223 and one of the people in the crowd was like he said that before lol

Standing Wolf lol, I think she was just having one of her moods, usually she's pro-gun and has been raised with them and likes shooting. She says things to piss me off sometimes as I suspect she did this time, but it was funny how this happened RIGHT after the conversation.
