This A Good Deal On A S&W Model 10?

Lots of M10's in my area right now, ranging from $265-$325 depending on finish, condition, and configuration. None have original box or papers. If a 10 is on your list, this would be the time to jump on it.

I'm in Western WA myself ... I think that, as far as Model 10s go, the days of sub-200 dollar deals on these, no matter the condition of the piece, are pretty much long gone ... At this point, if I could find another 4" Model 10 around here, in the sort of condition you describe, I'd jump on it for 250 smackers.

Can't touch a shootable one for under $300 around here. The 6" isn't as popular, might be the deal. Didn't want the 6" barrel, I'd jump on it anyway if you're lookin' for a 10. You can always buy a 2" barrel and have it installed, or 4" or whatever if you don't like the 6". Me, I'd put a 2" tube on it eventually.

I starting to agree with Old Dog. In recent years, I have been fortunate enoughto continue to find Model 10s and M&Ps in the sub $200 range, and I bought them immediately. I'm glad I did. The last one I found, a nickel snub, was last Summer. Since then, I have only seen them priced over $200.

An excellent condition Model 10 with the original box and a Tyler T for $250? Yeah, I'd buy it! It will sell for $250, but it's value as a firearm is much, much more.

Of the various barrel lengths, the 6" is the least popular. That gives you a little leverage with the seller. From a personal point of view I've found them to be great shooters, and you can sometimes humble the wise guys at the local shooting range. If that revolver was in my local retailer's shop and I could get away with it for $250.00 OTD I would run, not walk......

In that condition, I'd buy it for that price. I like the fact that it has an unusual barrel length. Something you don't see every day.

Yes and no.

Between 1899 and about 1950 the 6" length was far more common the it was after that. By then the law enforcement community had largely switched from walking beats to patrol cars. Old timers (need I say Fuff?) are well aware that while the longer barrel length is a bit harder to carry, they are usually tack drivers. I have picked up some super buys on older "long action" Military & Police models with 6 inch barrels because the individuals or dealers that had them were having a hard time finding a buyer.

Yes, Fuff, I remember Bill Jordan discussing that in his famous book, i.e., about switching to patrol cars and not being able to carry the six inchers anymore.

Most of Ed McGivern’s aerial shooting and double-action speed shooting (not counting drawing) was done with S&W “long action” .38 Military & Police revolvers with adjustable sights, and 6” barrels although it’s questionable if he really aimed. 5 shots in a group you could cover with a playing card in 2/5th of one second was not too shabby…

There's a Model 10-7 2" (or 2.5"???) with tylers for sale in my area. Very good condition with only mild holster wear for $249.

I'd say $250 + tax is an excellent deal. If it passes the checkout process at the top of the forum, grab it before someone else does! It will only appreciate from here.

That's kinda what I'm thinking. I don't really need it, since I already have a 586, however I can't help but think that the S&W M10 is going to appreciate faster than the $270 in my .25% savings account.

I picked up a S&W 10-5 about 2yrs ago, they were asking $229 so I offered $175 with the BG check.

I got a few from J&Gsales, Prescott AZ. for $169. police trade ins. For what you're getting, not a bad price, go for it.
