Third and final (?) version.

Might have to re-work the caption for accuracy "...made before 1986 are entirely legal". The aim is to get people who thing MGs are illegal to actually learn the laws.

Use an " * " after the legal and put the subtitle explaining at the bottom. Use a smaller font and place the text explaining in the negative space that falls directly below the uzi's barrel and the woman's waist. If the main text gets too wordy, people will lose interest. Plus the asterix is like saying, "READ THE FINE PRINT CONCERNING GUN LAWS".

top caption: "Hey, this is really fun!" Maybe photochop in some images of shot up two-litre soda bottles in the back left...

Lose The Caps And Lower Case...

"remaiNing"

I'd list the states. And stuff it into Powerpoint or something, with a "normal" font, so that a student who is papering his campus can insert the name of his state...

At the bottom - "Let's go shooting!"

Looks like fun.

If it were my poster,

I'd lose the "that" in the the first sentence. Write it: "So much fun they're illegal..."

Clarify but don't confuse the audience by saying in the second sentence: "Fortunately, registered machine guns are legal in the *remaining forty-two states."

*remaining is misspelled in the poster. Sorry to nit-pick. I'll go back to my corner now.

And Oleg, don't just create... Purpose-create... Think of what the end use will be of an item, and build it around that communication need. Some stuff lends itself to campus "get people just involved" campaigns, while others are basically "civic awareness" for when votes are coming up, etc... If a neigbhorhood is having a crime problem, different self-defense oriented ones go up. If the neighborhood is heavy GLBT, it's different ones...

Image Idea: Get some pics of a real rifle or trap team, from a real school...

Caption: Acme University Will Beat _________ University!

(put it in a thing where it will be relatively easy to just add the institution name)

and below...

Oh, wait. You guys don't even have a shooting team!
YOU FORFEIT YOUR RIGHTS!

Tell a college student he can't have something, or that his school just got beat like a rented designer, and...

The aim is to get people who thing MGs are illegal to actually learn the laws.

People who believe MG's are illegal perhaps enjoy believing this myth. Are you concerned this may backfire -- meaning they'll become outraged and jump on board with anti-MG legislation, and/or any other legislation aimed and scary things such as black rifles, 50bmg...etc?

I fear that assuming the intended realization will take place puts a little too much faith in our middle-road neighbors who, for so long, have been fed the notion that guns -- especially ‘scary’ guns -- are the cause of so many social problems.

They may just “actually learn the laws,” and realize they’re not as ‘safe’ as they ‘thought’ they were…

Maybe I'm just a cynic. :uhoh:

Otherwise, your work is excellent as usual.

If they look, they'll see just HOW MANY LAWS are on the books already.

Tinyurl -- can I do that for someone else's site?

If they look, they'll see just HOW MANY LAWS are on the books already.

Very true.

They may then take this new found information, compare it to what they see on the nightly news (school shootings, Amish children executed, mall shootings, gang shootings...ad infinitum), and come to the realization that we need more laws because the ones we have 'aren't working.'

Your ad may make them think. It may make them learn. And it may even make a few realize that gun control laws are mostly futile.

But it will not make them like machine guns. Nor will it make them like the thought of MG's being legal their state. It might do the opposite.

sure, oleg, just cut/paste that url into the textbox on the site and generate the url.

for instance, i just took the url to this thread and generated this: http://tinyurl.com/2ynk6s

click on it to see what it looks like

I'm personally sick of living in fear of gun grabbers. You know what? If this scares them, good. Let's fight the sons-of-bitches in court and on the evening news. These liberals need to use their embryonic stem cell research and grow a pair of balls.

Odd, but for "first impact" upon viewing I got:

So much fun they're
ILLEGAL
in eight states.

TextTextTextTextTextText
TextTextTextTextTextText
TextTextTextTextTextText
TextTextTextTextTextText

...Which leads me to feel that casual viewers would come away with "Hey, did you know machineguns are illegal?"

Perhaps This reverse approach?:

So much fun... and also perfectly
LEGAL
in 48 states.

On further thought, I think you are right. I tried to draw in the antis, but too much subtlety could be bad.

I like the photo and the idea, the pose is just right. I agree with turning it around: "So much fun, and legal in 48 states. Learn your gun lawss," something like that. My only complaint is the leather jacket. Looks a bit 'evil-black'. Something a bit less 'intimidating'?

Good point. Will make another version with dressier clothes. The jacket was all that was available that day.

The jacket seems all right, maybe change the pants to something more upscale to match it. Question. If she’s on the firing line, why isn’t she wearing the eye protection and earmuffs?

I dont think Machineguns are completely illegal in CA.

12230. The Department of Justice may issue permits for the possession, manufacture, and transportation or possession, manufacture, or transportation of machineguns, upon a satisfactory showing that good cause exists for the issuance thereof to the applicant for the permit, but no permit shall be issued to a person who is under 18 years of age.

http://www.ag.ca.gov/firearms/dwcl/12200.php

I guess they're virtually illegal since they'd never give anyone a permit.

i vote keep the jacket. the pansies may take our guns, but they can't have our fashion

I like that picture, although I was waiting to see "...too bad you can't afford them" under the young lady's image. Equal protection via the 14th Amendment, save for protecting the rights that elites find unsavory! God bless America.
