I understand The CMP has some Danish FG M1's in stock now. Has anyone seen or purchased one of these? Anyone know how the Danes compare to the last of the Greek FG's, in their overall condition. I bought a Greek FG last year and must admit, it was a little more beat up than I expected. Not sure what the condition of the last of the Greeks were. If anyone could post a pic of either, I'd be very grateful.
thanks.

Here's my Dane that I picked up at the North Store 2 weeks ago.

December 1943, almost all SA, just a few Italian parts.
Matching walnut, decent barrel, MW and TE of 2.

Wood and barrel are were a huge step up from the Greeks. I was fortunate to hit the store the day after the Danes arrived, though.

Good luck!!

While I'm at it, here is a picture of my Greek FG. I replaced the mismatched wood with a CMP stock.

Echoing what Mr Cobretti said, my Danish field grade is generally nicer across the board than my Greek field grade. Both were selected out of the racks at the South Store, so I feel they were both pretty good quality for the rifles they had in stock.

If I could only buy one CMP field grade Garand, I'd go with the Dane over the Greek.

Thanks MC & H-soldier,
The pic is really worth a thousand words. That Dane is in WAY better shape than my Greek arrived in. After seeing that, I think I really need to direct my efforts at foregoing the Greek FG and concentrate on getting one of the Danes, even if it involves a road trip.
H-soldier: - did they have very many of them compared to the Greeks when you were at the store, or was it only a few?

I'm curious ... where do you get this info that they have Danish Field Grades in stock? The odcmp.com webpage shows "Sold out - no longer accepting orders - 2-6-07"

After the Greek FG's ran out, the North and South Stores put some Danes on the racks. It may be a store-only item right now. I am fortunate enough to be 45 min from the North Store.

Its true. I picked up a Dane in mid Febuary. I had bought a Greek return just a few weeks earlier. The weekend I ended up in Anniston, they were just putting out the Danes because the Greeks were sold out. On a side bar, I just got them both out to the range yesterday. They both are fine shooters, the Dane has a VAR barrel on it, and the stocks are much better than the Greek wood. But both were very good out of the box.

Hope that helps.

I'm not sure how many rifles per floor rack, but when I was there (South Store) a month or so ago, they had two entire racks of Dane field grades, so I'd guess a couple hundred at that point, maybe? (I may be overestimating the number of rifles in one of the racks.)

Not sure how many they still have, but a friend of mine who went up there last weekend picked up a Danish FG, so there are still some in the South Store.

I browsed the CMP site for a while, and couldn't find the information I was looking for. Since so many people on this thread seem to have ordered before, I was hoping for some help.

What exactly do i need to get a "take home" rifle from the CMP if i was to stop by? Drivers Licence, CCW permit, Birth Certificate, and proof of membership in a shooting club, correct? I take it the CCW doesn't count? If not, is it possible to join a club on-site? I know I won't be able to get back proof of membership n before thursday. (thats when im hoping to make the drive)
