I saw on the CMP website that they are down to Rack grades and Greek Field Grades Garands. Has anyone recently recieved a Greek FG from CMP that could post pics and give a gereral description of it's condition.
I have heard that there are supposed to be 50,000 more that have been reimported and are presently being graded, sorted, priced, repaired, whatever, so that Service Grade or better may be available soon. Has this ever been verified, or known from where these rifles were reimported from?

My buddy and I ordered the Greeks FG's he got his and mine will be here soon. his looks really great and I am not worried about mine i will post when I get it

FWIW, I asked a similar question on the CMP forum; I asked if I should get a field grade Greek return, a rack grade USGI, or maybe wait to see what else might be available.

Orest Michaels, CPM Chief Operating Officer responded, "field grade greek return. there is no guarantee that there will be much of anythign else in the coming months."

I took that as an informed answer and mailed my order for a field grade Greek return.

My Greek return (Service Grade) shoots lights out (2 MOA with no problems at all). I wouldn't worry about it.

I just ordered a Greek field grade a week ago. I am very much looking forward to receiving it. I'll post a photo when it comes.

Heres my Greek field grade......got it about 4 months ago.

The wood is horribly mismatched but the metal was in top notch shape and using the "bullet in the end of the barrel" test has alot of life left in her.

I ordered another and got it in November.....but dont have any pictures. The stock was in better condition but also mismatched.

For the money I was extremely impressed with the condition of the metal and barrels.....the stocks are very hit or miss.....with me mostly getting the miss.

My Greek Field Grade was in great mechanical condition, with beat up and mismatched wood like aaronrkelly described. Most or all of the Greek Field Grades in the CMP South store when I picked up mine were all mismatched and battered as far as the wood went.

Mechanically, mine was in much better condition than the descriptions on the CMP website would lead you to believe. I imagine it's more of a crap shoot if you mail order but if you can get into the stores to pick your field grade you can probably find a good shooter with no problem.

DOH.....they post the shipped info when they send the info to fedex...it shipped today at 1pm and WILL be at my door by 10:30 tomorrow!

You guys really suck!!!

Showing off all these M1s from the CMP is making my decision to save up for a DSA FAL all the more difficult since it is in a respectable ,"Battle Rifle cartridge", and I don't know how many are left:banghead: !! If I wait the month or two to save up for the FAL, I might miss out on the Garands:mad: with the political climate as it is. If I don't start saving now for the FAL, I might get screwed on my budget for the M1A that is supposed to be my Christmas gift to myself:uhoh:. Darn having these too many choices! I will have to make some tough decisions in the next coming months as to which is more important to have in the immediate future:scrutiny: ...

Still 2 Many Choices!?

Last I heard the "man" who runs CMP says they have about 6 months worth of M1 Greeks left give or take. You have a little time but, don't dally

They've been saying that forever, which lends that extra bit of urgency to buy as many M1s as possible. They're still selling springfields, though....and those've been around for 104 years. YMMV, but Garands are the only long guns I plan to buy in the next few years, until they run out.

2 minutes after the above post I recieved my M1 from CMP. A 5.8 million serial # puts it at the end of the M1 service record for the armed forces. Wood is dark and there are some repair marks but all in all it is a fine weapon. Pics to come.:) :) :) :) :) :) :D :D :D :D

CMP Greek Garands suck big time! You guys should all stay away from these pieces of you-know-what ...

... until I get my membership papers from GCA and send my order. :neener:

You mean I should not have gotten one of these? You know you are correct... I should have gotten 3. Well, I may only get one more then hold out for a WWII issue one. Then their Stacking Swivels will not be lonely.

I just received my M1 yesterday! It is a Greek field grade. I am happy with the condition, pretty much just as others here have described. The metal is in excellent condition and the barrel has plenty of life left. The stock is rather beat up but I don't mind, gives it character. The handguards on the other hand must go. They are ugly and will be replaced as soon as I find some that match the stock a little better. Sunday afternoon I plan on going to the range to see how it shoots.

I'm sure glad I got my order in before they ran out. If I had the money I would be tempted to get another, maybe a rack grade or woodless as a project. I get my bonus from work next month....:)
