Just checked the web site and found that The CMP is no longer accepting applications for RG Garands. I sent in my application for Greek the day before they stopped taking applications for the Greek FG's. Not sure where I stand on that. It appears the end of the Garands may be closer than thought. I 've heard some rumors of an another shipment of M1's (50,000) but have'nt been able to confirm this. Anyone have any new CMP Garand info as to future sales?

Future USGI is out of the question. Orest stated that the remaning Garands in the US Army's inventory is being saved for vet. groups. Right now, there are a LOT of Garands still in crates in Anniston, but they are gearing up for the highly anticipated Carbine sales, and Garands are not getting the attention that they normally do. If you want a Garnad, you bettter be willing to spend the bucks to get a rough one, or a woodless one and plan on rebarreling and reparking it and adding a replacement stock. I understand that even good used walnut upper handguards are scarce now. Thankfully, I like the idea of a "restored" or home made "re-arsenaled" Garand. I've got a Woodless on order, and I'm scrambling to get enough cash to get another before they come to an end. My only savings grace is that everyone is now saving their money to buy the carbines and Garand sales have slowed somewhat.

I think at least some of them are being used for 21 gun salutes when veterans are buried.

I thought they used the 03's for the funerals. At least that's what was used for my Dad's funeral 5 years ago. Either way though, there's a cause no one can argue with. As much as I'd like another Garand, I would'nt one at the expense of a vet not getting the respect at his burial that he deserves and has earned for his service to our country.
A worthy cause for holding onto some.

It depends on the local Servicemans' Detail organization. The one in my town uses M1 Rifles. The next town west uses M1903 Springfields. A town to the north uses M1917 Enfields.

It depends on what they got, when they got them.
