What's your security routine?

For me it's check door and window locks, note the condition of the outside motion light, sweet talk the dogs, make sure there are no free weapons left downstairs (i.e. my knife or pepper spray), Surefire on the bedside table, usually the cell phone too, and a revolver or shotgun on the closet shelf... next to the ever-present Second Chance. Oh, and make sure the American flag is brought in.

Hmm... well, assuming I hadn't went to the range... lock everything up and hit the sack... the .40 stays next to me, loaded always... plus a spare mag....

Doors & windows locked, safes locked, alarm turned on and handgun on nightstand. Shotgun, flashlight and other common items are always stored near bed and readily accessible.

Feed the puppies (3, 80+ pound Chow-Labs, 1 indoor babied Lab); lock the doors and hit the sack.........Those dogs are the best motion sensor I know of.

1. Ensure garage doors are shut.

2. Lock security doors, and windows.

3. Activate interior motion detector alarms.

4. Lock bedroom door, and barricade (using a door brace thing).

Luckily, our bedroom is what I like to call the "secure area" at night -- it has a full bathroom in it that is only accessible from inside the bedroom - so there is rarely a reason to go into the main part of the house at night.

There is always at least one cell phone in the bedroom at night. Also, on a wall rack beside the bed there is a:

1. Mossberg Persuader 12ga pump shotgun

2. SAR-1 AK-47 Rifle

Nightstand: Springfield 1911-A1 Full-size and two flashlights

Lock the front door, lock the interior door, lock the porch door, turn on light in kitchen, hit the sack, check Glock 22 stuck between matress and box spring, attempt to sleep, get woken up about my wife's sore back, rub back, listen to dog get up and flap ears like firecrackers, attempt to sleep. Start over

Pray that there is no one stupid enough to attempt to break in to my house.

I don't want to have to re-paint the walls and lay new carpet...

- door locked, check
- windows secured, check
- claymores in place, check
- fish tank lights off, check
- safe locked, check
- oven/range off, check
- lids on tarantula tanks secure, check
- no shoes in the middle of the floor, check
- loaded handguns on nightstand, check
- brush teeth, check
- alarm clock set, check

As far as I am concerned...

- lids on tarantula tanks secure, check

That is the only one that really matters.:what:

Shotguns loaded with Tarantula shot.....Check.

1. Double check door to my apartment is locked and bolted.

2. Empty bladder.

3. Place fully loaded .45 on night stand.

4. Turn off lights and catch some Zzzzzz...

- claymores in place, check

Claymores? Are those really necessary? :scrutiny:

Forgive my youth and inexperience, but is it really necessary to have multiple firearms nearby for one person? I really dont see that many instances where a dozen people are going to burst in one's house. I honestly thought a shotgun and a pistol would be quite sufficent. But what do I know.

If anyone cares to explain why these might be needed, I am all ears.

What I do:
Make sure puppy is in bed, pat on head (awww, sooo cooot)
Set alarm clocks.
Climb into bed.

Moparmike - The answer to that is the same answer i give to my wife when she compains (daily) about me having more than one gun, with more on the way:

Because I CAN. :neener:

I knew it was a joke.

However, I too would have them because I can too. I dont know where I would install them though; I never have really given much thought to 'kill zones'. Besides, I never know what the puppy is going to dig up next. Hell, the puppy would probably install them first to rid us of the "Unspeakable Evil" that taunts her (ie squirrels... She hates those things).

B4 anyone asks, she is a beagle. (awww, coooot puppy doggie)

Doors locked.
Downstairs windows closed and locked.
Let dogs out one last time.
Bring in the flag.
Let the dogs back in.
Go upstairs and check the kids.
Kick the dogs out of my bed.
Read for 30-60 minutes.
Sleep.
