I am contemplating a 90+% Iver Johnson commercial M1 carbine for sh*&s & giggles and thought about personal defense capabilites since it is light and managable...but the big ???

is there proper defense ammo available for .30 cal M1 Carbine and who makes it?

thank you

I'd use soft point by either Winchester or Remington. It will equal the 357 mag out of a handgun or better it.

The Remington soft point ammo functions great in both of my Universal carbines. Apparently it has a reputation for expanding properly, which the Federal soft point does not.

Before everyone who's never owned one jumps in to inform me that Universals are junk, and I'll never be able to get parts, and yada yada, be advised that I welcome these comments.

Helps keep the prices down so I can afford to buy all I run across.:neener:

I would check out the Georgia Arms 110gr softpoint for the m1 carbines. It has a good price, and a great reputation. Ive been using them in my carbine the last few years.

I've put quite a few boxes of Federal SP through Mrs. .45's carbine. Functions flawlessly.

Maybe not defense ammo, but has anyone tried the Aguilla carbine ammo before? I have shot their .22, but nothing else.

Thanks for the suggestions on defense ammo. I need to get my brother his B-day present.

Winchester makes a 110 grain Jacketed hollow cavity. It's actually a JSP with a small hollow point. Give it a try, it shoots into 4" groups at 100 yards in my carbine, which for a carbine is considered match grade accuracy.

Function check the wolf before buying a case. I've found my vintage 30 rounders had some loading issues when fully topped off with the Wolf.... maybe not smooth as brass?
